Matthew Clinton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2024.
Matthew "Matt" Aaron Clinton, 54, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024, in York, Pa. He was born on February 7,1971 in York to Nancy S. and Timothy M. Clinton.

Matt attended West York High School and York VoTech. He went on to become a master carpenter, a career he was passionate about, excelled in, and loved. His brilliance and artistic abilities truly shone through in his work. He brought creativity and magic to each of his projects, like the Escape Games Live in York.

Owner and friend, Michelle Hill, credits Matt with transforming the company and making them who they are today. "Matt changed us from a good escape room company to a great one. He is the one that added magic. Every single extra cool thing was him. He made us great. If you think of something especially neat in a room, Matt built it."

Matt was especially excited about his son, Aidan, following in his professional footsteps and pursuing the same career. He eagerly looked forward to the possibility of working together in the future.

Matt had a brilliant mind and strong intellect and was proud of his son, Phil and his great intellect and achievements at Drexel University and in the ROTC.

Matt also had been a dedicated member of the Alcoholics Anonymous recovery community and his church community. He worked tirelessly for many years helping others find recovery, regain their lives, and heal their families. Matt would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His kindness and willingness to help touched many lives and his loss will be deeply felt by the community to which he gave so much. Many in the community recount Matt's genuine kindness and giving ways. He was special to many. He also had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around.

Matt also possessed a special ability to dive deep into spiritual literature and theories. He loved to analyze, reflect, and discuss them with others and was very fond of his mentor and church pastor, Pastor John Baker from Kinderhook Evangelical Church in Columbia, Pa. The church and people there were an important part of Matt's life and he found them to be a great source of comfort.

Despite all of Matt's work in recovery and work accomplishments, his greatest pride was his two sons, Philip and Aidan. Although he wasn't always able to be the father he wanted to be due to his struggles with alcoholism and addiction, he loved them deeply and kept them in his heart at all times. Matt shared with many how deeply proud he was of the young men they have become. He cherished the memories of having fun and playing with his boys when they were younger and spoke about them and these times often.

He is preceded in death by his father, Timothy M. Clinton, and nephew, Devin J. Clinton is survived by his beloved sons: Philip M. (21) and Aidan J. (17) Clinton, mother, Nancy S. Clinton (Buchanan), brothers, Jon D. Clinton (wife, Christine ) and Mike E. Noll (wife, Renee), sister in law Theresa E. Clinton, his beloved niece, Brittney M. Naylor (Clinton) with whom he always shared a special bond and her husband and dear friend Danny D. Naylor and great niece Elizabeth G. Naylor (2 yr) as well as nieces, Megan E. and Katie A. Clinton and Leah R. Noll and nephew, Zachary M. Noll, and ex-wife and friend Jane Calcina-Clinton, her mother and friend Pat Thomas.

I think of my friend Matt often. He got me through some critical times in my sobriety. In the end we were roommates. He taught me to laugh hysterically. And brought so much insight and friendship in my world. God bless you Matt Clayton

Matt- I will always be grateful to so many folks you helped during their recovery process. You are true blue and your sence of humor will be sorely missed. You did everything for your sons and put them above all else and the way you spoke about them constantly in that you love them so much and wanted to do right by them. The world was way better with you in it.

Best,
Laura Keen

Looking for the right words is impossible. Which story would I want to share. Brother, I wish the stories were endless. But, more important than the stories is the memory I will have of you as a friend and spiritual teacher. The man you helped me to become gave my mother renewed hope. It gave my father a son. It gave me life. I know God did all the work, as you would make clear to me that it was it was all Him. And, that may be true...but you were the teacher I was willing to listen too. You were the one that laid your life down to come help a fool in need. You helped to dismantle my ego and to learn to trust in God. So many things I learned from you....and I am a better man for having known you. Thank you my friend. For everything! You will be missed for sure.

Matt. My brother, friend and confidant. You made the world a better place. You will always be a bright spot in my life. We went through high and lows. Your smile and sense of humor gave me the chance to imagine the possibilities of sobriety. God bless you Matt Clinton.

I am one of Matt's cousins. First let me offer deep sympathy and condolences to all Matt's family, and his closest friends.
My compliments for a well written obituary. It celebrated the good Matt brought to others. Because of his troubled addictions he was able to do that. What you have said, reflecting on memories, is a blessing and tribute to him, thanks for sharing!
I am older by 15 years. Matt was the ring bearer in my wedding. The same smile you will remember him having was evidenced in that wedding photo. Later Matt would be at the many picnics my wife Sharon and I had over the years.
Matt was always polite and respectful, and you knew he had a genuine caring for other people.
Victory over addictions can be but one day, several days, weeks or months or years. I am glad Matt had victories. To know he was influential is helping and supporting others leaves a well said tribute.
I hope to meet some of you who have spoken so well of Matt.
Praising the Lord that he made a profession of faith. The apostle Paul spoke of Epaphras, a partner in ministry, who was known to be an engourager. For sure Matt was just that to so many!

I first met Matt in third grade. He was always laughing and funny, then later in life in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. He never had a bad thing to say and always helped everyone he could. He will truly be missed. I am praying for the family.

Something I always will remember about Matthew was the time he got a football for me so we could play with each other in the front/back yard. He was an amazing human being, he was always family to us, he was very respectful and kind to us, he would work hard and try his best. I love u so much, I hope you are doing better with the lord. WE LOVE YOU MATTHEW

I was in a tough spot and Matt called me every morning. I had to call him probably 5 to 7 times a day to ask him what I should do next. He answered every time I called. I´ll just never forget his patience and endurance with me during that time. Later on in life I stayed at a cabin with Matt for 4 days while he was struggling. He received Jesus into his heart during my stay with him.
