Matthew Dimick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 14, 2025.

Matthew Michael "Matt" Dimick, age 21, of Kentwood, Michigan, passed away on February 27, 2025. Born on June 10, 2003, in Grand Rapids, Matthew brought light and laughter into the lives of all who knew him.

A proud 2021 graduate of East Kentwood High School, Matt was a young man of vibrant energy and deep introspection. He carried within him a personal and profound relationship with God-one rooted in thoughtful exploration and a sincere desire to understand Jesus Christ. Though he did not attend church regularly, his faith was a guiding force that shaped his journey.

Nature was Matt's sanctuary. The shores of Lake Michigan held a special place in his heart; there, he found peace and connection. Whether hiking the trails at Hoffmaster State Park or soaking in the rugged beauty of Point Betsie's crashing waves, Matt felt most alive outdoors. He loved hammocking beneath the trees with friends and recently embraced snowboarding with passion, encouraged by one of his closest friends, Clayton Drozdowski. At home or gathered with friends, Matt also found joy in playing video games-an outlet for adventure and camaraderie that reflected his playful spirit.

His sense of humor was magnetic; he had an uncanny ability to make people laugh and feel seen. Charismatic and attentive, Matt was someone who truly listened-who made others feel valued just by being present. Despite his warmth and generosity toward others, Matt faced personal battles with anxiety and depression. He often held himself to impossible standards and feared letting others down. Yet even in the midst of these struggles, he remained selfless-continually putting the needs of others before his own.

Matt shared an especially close bond with his family. His parents, Mike and Melissa Dimick, and sister Peyton were at the center of his world. He and his mother shared a rare and beautiful "mother-son" connection-spending countless hours talking about life, love, and faith. To those who knew him best, Matt was the perfect son and brother: loving, thoughtful, funny, and kind beyond measure. He is deeply mourned by his father Mike Dimick; mother Melissa Dimick; sister Peyton Dimick; grandparents Brian and Gloria Crowley; grandmother Judith Brown; aunt Kim Bering; uncle and aunt Chris and Beth Brown; uncle and aunt Foster and Estelle Brown; uncle and aunt Robert and Mia Whitehead; as well as numerous cousins who cherished him dearly.

Matthew's life reminds us that even the brightest lights can flicker under unseen burdens. May we carry forward his memory by extending compassion to one another-and by remembering the beauty he brought into our world every single day.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Foundation Church located at 5665 Eastern Ave. SE in Kentwood, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Michigan) or your preferred mental health organization.
