I want to offer my deepest sympathy and sorrow for the loss of Matthew. I know nothing I can say will ease the pain of your loss but I KNOW Matthew is secure in the arms of JESUS.
I was following Matthews story because my 10 y.o. son, Josh was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 Wilms. I am still numb and reading your journal on Matthew was helping me to understand what may lie ahead for my son and I. Your journal was taken down before I could finish reading it and I would like to ask if you could Please put your journal back up for a day or two. This would mean a lot to me.

I had the joy of knowing Mathew from Camp Circle o Friends and from his successful book launch in Regina. As I watched him the evening of his launch, in a packed Chapters store and saw the many people line up for a copy of his autographed book I knew the impact he had on the lives of so many was great. Mathew's book is a great legacy. Mathew's kind heart and generous spirit is now our inspiration. I am grateful for knowing Mathew. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go to Mathew's loving family and many friends.

Our deepest condolences go out to you. It seems like we've known Matthew a very long time - he was already in treatment when our son Anthony started 10 years ago. Matthew was a fighter - no one can dispute that. I will always remember the amazing speech he made at the fundraiser supper for pediatric oncology, and how he rattled off all the things that he had been struggling with, the relapses etc., as if it was nothing at all, so strong, so confident! He has been and will be an encouragement to many other cancer kids that his story reaches. May God comfort all of you and may you find peace knowing that he loved all of you and he was loved by many as well. His life made an impact on all who knew him. Rest well, Matthew.

I was thankful to be at the service today to celebrate Matthew's life. I met Matthew, Christian and Emma as a volunteer at CCOF. Matthew was an amazing young man, and I treasure the many memories I have of him. Before I left for the funeral, I was at my Bible study: many of the members had attended Matthew's book signing years ago, but they were always asking me about him each time I went to camp or he appeared in the media. They expressed their condolences as well. I was moved to tears when "Fly" played at the end of the service: I like to think of Matthew strong again and finally free from all the pain he felt, especially at the end of his life. I learned so much from the way he lived each day to the fullest with love, faith, courage and hope. I pray that God brings you peace and comforts you in your loss.

for matt. the candle that was lit didnt have much time to burn.but the that it had produced was like a million suns that turned any area of darkness into a paradise,where no pain existed or the reality of the situation was felt.the tiny soul inside battling a war of monumental proportionswith the hand that he was dealt,..he staived off all the persistant pains and brushed it all aside.that smile oh that smile so infectious athousand rainbows could never be so vibrant. in this maddening most chaotic place he was arock he made you laugh when you felt like crying. but alas our heroes light begins to flutter and the end is imminent and yet he goes bravely into the breach,...where angels sing and cherubs play a symphony of beauty....the candle succumbs now slowly but the brave child carries on., into heaven with his king into our hearts and in our dreams forever.....goodnight sweet prince.

i didnt know him as well as pmost people did, but ill never forget being at the Celebirty dinner with him two years ago ans seeing how happy he was. i only wish we could have een each other mroe. when i found out i jsut looked at my mom and told her that i will fight the cancer dragon for not only me now but for matthew as well.
he had such a big heart and cared for everyone around him. he showed us that no matter what we can get through the tough times and that what we have to remeber we have to remember the good times everyone had with him.

My daughter and I met Matthew at his book launch at McNally's. I was impressed and encouraged by his positive attitude and dedication to life. He touched our lives in just a few moments. I can only imagine what kind of inspiration he was to his family and friends.

Nicole and family: I just heard from my daughter Elaine about the loss of your boy. I know how the bond between you and your child is so strong and from personal experience I know that losing a child is very, very difficult. Maybe God called him home and needed him back. I hear that your Matthew was a happy boy even with his health condition. How brave! He will live on in our memories and people will talk of him for years to come. I pray that God will give you strength in the coming days ahead.

Nicole and Family. I was so very sorry to read about Matthew's passing. When I first met Matthew he was so very little and although I have not seen him much as he grew, I have never missed an article or interview about or with him. You all must be so proud of him not only for his determined fight, but more for the example he set for other children and adults as well.
