Matthew David Harwood

Matthew Harwood, Alexandria VA, passed away on October 14, 2025. Born on February 21, 1959, to Michael and Adele Harwood, Matthew graduated Cum Laude from Virginia Tech's College of Architecture and Urban Studies in 1983 and spent his 38-year career as an Artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. He received awards for his advocacy of public art in Alexandria, chairing and serving on committees and commissions with the City and the Art Center. Matthew created 3-D watercolor art until premiering his Art of Prime Numbers exhibition at the US Embassy in Rome, then devoting his career to prime number inspired art.

Matthew is survived by his wife Eileen Taylor, mother Adele Harwood, brother Michael Harwood (Christine), sister Marguerite Besson (Paul), sister Mary Therese Harwood, brother Patrick Harwood (Alesia), brother Peter Harwood, and beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and brother Thomas.
