6-30-2022. 15 years wow. It’s been almost a year since we moved here to the cabin- home now. When we go back to the old neighborhood we try to swing by to check in on you. The memories of you and your brothers at the old house are just as strong here at the cabin. So the hurt of missing you hasn’t changed. Holidays are tough because I know we are missing one guy. I just couldn’t keep up with 2 places so we came up here to get away from the busy towns. So 15 years. Hard to believe. Miss you and love you. Dad

6-30-2021 Well 14 yrs ago I remember what I said to you as you were heading out the door. I said Have a good time. Little did we know how things can change fast. And speaking of change Mom and I sold the house and we are moving to the cabin. So we had to start packing and we were going through your stuff. That was hard to do again. But we also found good stuff. So life gose on just like 14 yrs ago. We miss you and Love you. P,S This might be the last year of the Matt Lee Softball tourney.

Just so you know, many people think of you often. I know that I jam out to a few songs that we sang when we were working and even today, I will turn up the radio when one of those songs pop on, and remember singing with you at F&F. I miss you, Matty Lee!

I HOPE YOU ARE OK WITH THE FLAG POLE MEMORIAL THAT YOUR FAMILY AND FREINDS BUILT AT THE CEMENTARY IN YOUR HONOR. WE WANTED TO PUT A BATTING CAGE UP FOR YOU, BUT WE COULD NOT SNEAK IT PAST FATHER. June 17, 2008
I’ll lend you for a little time a child of mine, He said.
For you to love while he lives, and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven years or twenty two or three,
But will you till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He will bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief
I can not promise he will stay, since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught down there I want his child to learn.
I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers there
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, not think the labor vain
Nor hate me when I come to call to take him back again?
I fancied that I heard them say, Dear Lord, thy will be done!
For all the joy thy child shall bring, the risk of grief will run
We’ll shelter him with tenderness we’ll love him while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay
But shall the angles call for him much sooner then we’ve planned
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.

Lois, Dave, and boys:
Time has not yet begun to heal the pain that we are feeling. On the eve of his 24th birthday, I can only imagine what tomorrow would be like if things were different. I love that kid so much, and I miss his sarcastic, straight-forward approach to any situation; but more than a joker, he was always the thoughtful one in the room. No matter what, I knew that i could count on him to listen, and have a serious conversation when the moment presented itself. Uncle dave, Aunt Lois, you did an amazing job raising a respectful, warm-hearted, hilarious guy, who can never be replaced and will NEVER be forgotten! Happy Birthday red-head!!

Dear Lee Family
We were so shocked to hear of Matt's passing. We have alot of great memories of Matt at St. Martins. Ezra is in Alaska for the summer and was so sad when I told him the news. He remembers Matt with the red hair and big smile and always horsing around. One time he was with Neil M. and they stopped by to see us in Motley and our dog bit him when he was wrestling around with the boys.No surprise that that made him and us all laugh. I will always remember him as having such great athletic talent but also being very compassionate. We moved when they were in 5th grade but it seems like yesterday. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

The Lee Family:
Matt was a gift. He will never be forgotten.
Ever since he was little he had that expressive look that made you grin. You knew he was going to be a big kid. His hands and arms almost seemed too big for his body. His smile was always perfect.
Matt was a special athlete. He could throw, hit and catch a ball better than most. His soft shot with a basketball was amazing. All those years of backyard games developed his natural ability.
He really had a passion for sports. Sometimes he was a firey competitior. We think appropriate for a guy with red hair.
But his passion for people was even greater. He was always quick to greet a friend, a customer or teammate. Matt was truly a star at telling stories, and drawing people in.
He loved his Mom's cooking. He also loved Gramma's and his many aunts menu's as well. When he was little they loved to tug at those ears.
He was very proud of Luke and Garret. I think it only bugged him a little that Garret had grown taller, and Luke made All-Confernece.
He had a wonderful spirit, an expressive character, and a sense of doing things the right way.
We will truly miss Matt. His memory will survive; and through the deep sadness we feel, somehow bring us another smile.
Rest in Peace, Matt. God Bless and keep you.

Dear Lois:
I am so very sorry for the loss of your son Matthew. I was at the funeral on Saturday and I was overwelmed by the number of people that were there to support you and your family. I had never met your son but by the showing of people it was quite obvious how he touched the lives of many people. I know that with your faith in God and with time your pain will lessen and your love for your son will over come the saddness in your heart.

To the Lee Family,
I met Matt on St. Patty's day, when he, Reed, Kaycee and I drove to St. Cloud together to celebrate. I quickly realized what a warm, funny, outgoing guy he was. We had a lot of laughs that night, especially when he angrily sat on the floor outside his hotel room for an hour waiting for Reed to return with the key. Matt later realized he actually had the key right there in his pocket the entire time. He had been confused by the pizza advertisement on the key card.
I'm sure he provided you with many wonderful smiles and memories. My thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to your family.

I just learned of Matt's passing while talking to my boss at the Dayton Bar. Matt and all guys were great kids and fun to have around. I'm so sincerely sorry for your loss. Matt was taken from us way too early and will forever be missed by all who crossed his path. I only wish I wasn't gone the last week from my work at the bar so maybe I could have seen that smiling face one more time. I am truly saddened by this sudden and horrific loss. My condolences and all my sympathy is extended to each and every one of you, family and friends of Matts. Always remember he will be watching all of us and may all the happy memories of him live in our hearts and help us through the rough days without him.

I heard of the tragic and painful loss of your son and brother Matthew through a young lady I work with who knows your family, Kristin W. I am so sorry for your pain and grief that you are experiencing at this time. I will pray for the Holy Spirit to carry you now in your time of grief. Be assured that our God is a God of love and mercy and He has Matthew with Him safely in His kingdom. In our Catholic faith, which we share, we pray for our loved ones who have gone before us and for the family members who are grieving. I can assure you that I will be praying for all of you for a long time.
Our family also lost a daughter and sister, Kristy, to a terrible car accident at age 16 in 2004. Like Matthew, she was very much loved and was a blessing to everyone who came in contact with her.
Luke and Garret, This seems impossible now to deal with for you I am sure. My heart just aches for you! Your grief, as a brother to Matthew, is not forgotten and I will pray for you guys.
If I can help your family now or in the future please let me know.
May God comfort you!

The only place that I can find comfort and peace right now is when I at the house with you guys. I hope that you all know how much I love Matt. My thoughts have been with your family all week. He was so young and still had so much more to experience. I always enjoyed Matt when he worked at F&F. I'll never forget him at my parents' cabin over the last few Memorial Weekends. How he could lock his keys in his car two years in a row, I'll never know? The last conversation I had with him, we joked about that very topic. I'll never forget his smile. I know his friends loved him dearly. Please stay strong!

Dear Dave, Lois, Luke and Garrett,
We were struck with saddness, for all of you and your friends and family at the news of this tragic accident and the loss of Matt and his friend, Jeremy.
Matt was such a fun-loving person. We often saw him at the ballgames and/or tournaments, and a wedding or two...The last time I talked with Matt (at Albertville Friendly City Days) I told him "I liked his sunglasses" (you know, Dave, the white ones he wore on his baseball hat) and he laughed and said that I was the only one who liked them! Such a cute and pleasant young man.
Surely he will live on in our memories and hearts, and with confidence we know he is now at home with our Lord!
You will all be in our prayers as we journey through this. May God give you strength and provide you with the comfort of family and friends.
Love,

This is still such a shock to all of us. Matt was the sweetest guy with such a fun personality. I will miss seeing him at all the softball games and I will cherish the memories we had together at St. Martin's. He will be deeply missed and I will always keep you in my prayers.

I had the privelage of working with Matt for 3 1/2 years at F&F. He was so much fun and had such a good sense of humor that everyone loved working with him, including me. He was always teasing and laughing with co-workers, friends or strangers. It seemed like he could talk on and on with just about anyone. It had been awhile since I was able to catch up with him, which I regret, but he has always come up in numerous conversations and he has left so many fun memories with me that I will always treasure. Matt was a great friend and one of my favorite people and I will miss dearly.
Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers and the memories of Matt will always stay with me. You raised one really great guy with a really big heart.

Dave, Lois, Luke & Garrett,
Matt was an unbelievable person. He touched so many lives in his short life span. Mike and I were just commenting last week when we ran into him how friendly he was, no matter who he was with he always made a point to say hi and ask how are you doing. We will never forget the memories we have of him, from daycare at my moms, to our wedding, to softball games, he will never be forgotten. We will miss his smiling face and fun loving attitude. We will keep you all in our prayers. God Bless.
