Matt was awesome. So very sorry to hear about his passing. I met him at Birch Creek over 20 years ago, where I was a counselor, and he was so supportive and kind to all of us. He was hilarious. I remember him telling me story about running over his viola and violin in it's case that he left behind his car, and can still remember his laugh and smile.

Mr. Mantell was an amazing teacher and mentor who positively impacted the lives of so many young musicians. He was always charismatic and vibrant and truly cared about the success of his students. I am grateful to have taken viola lessons from him for many years during my youth. His love for music and performance was very uplifting and inspirational. I will always remember fondly the time together among the best memories of my childhood and be humbled when I reminisce about his talent and warm character.
