Matthew Rosiek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2025.
Matthew Joseph Rosiek (November 26, 1949 - February 1, 2025)

Matt Rosiek, 75, of Marietta, GA, passed away on February 1, 2025, just a day after celebrating 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jean Anne Mills Rosiek.

Born in New Britain, CT on November 26, 1949 to Joe and Reggie Rosiek, Matt's love of sports shaped much of his life. A talented athlete, he played multiple sports as a youth in rec leagues, American Legion then Pulaski High. After graduating, he signed a professional baseball contract and, following college, played in all levels of the minor leagues for six seasons in the Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians organizations before transitioning his competitive spirit to the golf course, the card table, and the friendly banter of everyday life. Whether it was coaching his children and grandchildren, cribbage with his father-in-law, intense Uno tournaments with his grandkids, or rounds of golf with close friends and his boys, Matt played to win-but never at the expense of a good laugh.

Above all, Matt was a devoted family man. He and Jean built a life filled with love, humor, and adventure. He is survived by his older brother Danny (Rita) of Westbrook, CT along with their children Nate and Nola and younger sister Lynn "Al" Sharry (Bill) of Glastonbury, CT and their daughter Meagan (Ben Meth).

Together, Matt & Jean raised two sons, Jacob (Jasmine Nelson) and Jordan (Ashley), who blessed them with five cherished grandchildren: Caulin (16), Catherine (14), Gabriella (9), Luke (8), and Eleanor (4). Matt was their biggest fan, whether on the field, in the gym, in the classroom, or at the kitchen table playing cards.

Matt's quick wit, sense of humor, love of reading and sometimes irreverent take on life made him unforgettable. His legacy lives on in the stories shared by those who knew him, the laughter he brought to every room, and the deep love he had for his family and friends.

A celebration of Matt's life will be held in Atlanta on April 19, 2025 with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, Matt would have appreciated any donations to junior golf made to The First Tee at firsttee.org/donate in his name.

OMG! Cliff and I had no idea that the world had lost such a delightful man! Matt was a real treasure. We are so sorry for your loss. We have such fond memories of playing mindless games like Spoons in our early married lives. We will always hold those experiences dear. For now, we are holding all of you in our hearts and lifting you up as you navigate this difficult time.

Truly enjoyed playing golf with Matt. When he was on he was fun to watch & generally won the day. Took this pic at Bradshaw Farms on a day he played very well. Miss you.

Coach Rosiek was one of my favorite coaches growing up. He invited me to play some fall tournaments after I had gotten cut from the Freshman team. He gave me an opportunity to pitch against some other high school level teams and taught me a lot about the game. Ended up making the JV team the following year because of his guidance. Will never forget it.
