Matthew Sorensen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 25 to Feb. 26, 2016.
Matthew Murray Sorensen, 35, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016.
Matthew was born January 29, 1981 to Murray Jim and Gay Grimshaw Sorensen in Blackfoot, Idaho. He was the third of five boys.
He attended Wapello and Stoddard Elementary Schools, Mountain View Middle School and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1999.
As a child he played baseball and soccer. He loved and was famous for his dry ice bombs, bon fires and was always letting off fireworks.
Matt earned his Eagle Scout, tried his hand at pole vaulting, track and football.
He taught himself to play the piano and the guitar and wrote many songs. Music was one of the loves of his life.
Matt served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Richmond, Virginia from 2000-2002.
Our family went on a trip to Cabo San Lucas in 1997, here Matt saw his first street spray paint artist. He was always very artistic. He came home and started painting with spray paint. He continued to practice and hone his skills, constantly improving technics and trying new things.
Matt started booking fairs and selling his paintings. With hard work, he became an entertainer at fairs all over the Untied States and parts of Canada and was very proud to be a "carny". Over one million people have watched him paint. He has had almost four million views on his youtube videos. Probably the best part was, he got paid to play with fire (visit his website www.mattsorensen.com to view art and videos).
Matt will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Gay Sorensen; brothers, Ben, Josh (Amy), Dan (Chelsea) and Adam (Gayleen) Sorensen. He was the favorite uncle to 12 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Murray Sorensen and Henry & Hilda Grimshaw; aunt, Sue Sorensen; and cousin, Shawn Sorensen.
A celebration of Matt's life will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Blackfoot Stake Center, 1650 Highland Drive. In honor of Matt, please dress casually. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Blackfoot Stake Center, 1650 Highland Drive. The family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow services at the Grove City Cemetery. Join us for a bon fire at the Jim Sorensen Residence, 63 W 215 N in Blackfoot at sunset on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Matt Sorensen Starving Artist Fund, https://www.gofundme.com/bgqmcknw. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
