Matthew Stromberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 25 to Jul. 26, 2015.
Stromberg, Matthew On Saturday July 11th 2015 Matthew Martin Stromberg went peacefully home to be with our Lord and savior in the kingdom of heaven. He was 47 years old and is survived by his wife Angela Stromberg, parents Russ and Tricia Stromberg and brother Rusty Stromberg. Matt was a graduate of the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD where he went on to became a naval aviator. In 1996 upon returning from his deployment to South Korea he was diagnosed with brain cancer. After surviving major surgery and cancer treatment, Matt was medically retired and successfully transitioned into a civilian career with the Boeing Company in Seattle, where he worked on the F22 program. He left Boeing in 2003 to move to Orlando and form his own company, Viper Technology Services, which provides software support to the defense industry. Through the journey of his medical recovery Matt found faith in Christ and a much more significant reason to live. He was passionate about how his faith in Christ would navigate him through all of his days. Matt became a living testimony to the vitality of the human spirit, masterful at the art of living one day at a time, he was never burdened by what the future would bring. Life for Matt was about the relationship and not the task. With creative questioning that would stretch your mind and take you off guard, he took great joy in engaging conversation, wherever you were, whatever the subject. He was an enviable husband that took great pride in mastering the element of surprise in the bountiful ways he showed love for his wife. He was a trusted friend who's spontaneous acts of humor closed the miles between them, and he was a selfless employer who considered the opinion and experience of those on his team to be more valuable than his own. During this 18 month battle with his second round of brain cancer he grew to know God more deeply than ever before. He was truly selfless and cared more about what he could do for others than his own difficulties in life. We will be honoring his well lived life on Saturday August 1st at 10.00am at The First Methodist Church, 125 N Interlachen Dr, Winter Park, FL 32789. Matt will be laid to rest at Arlington. The family has established a scholarship fund to honor Matt at the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, which provides funds to educate the children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen. I just learned of Matt's passing. We were roommates together for six months in Quantico for The Basic School as Second Lieutenants. He was a unique character to say the least and a great man. I'm glad to see he made such a great impact on so many people and for that he will live on forever. Semper Fi!

I just heard today about Matt's passing. I lived near Matt at China Lake NWC when my dad was stationed there in the early 1980's. Matt would sometimes play tennis or Risk (board game) with us. I remember Matt's driven nature...even then he knew he wanted to go the Naval Academy, and he managed to turn that goal into reality, which left a lasting impression on me. I also remember Matt working to restore an old classic Buick he bought (I think it was a Buick) back by the tennis courts on base. He put his heart and soul into it, taking the paint down to metal with a wire brush on an electric drill. I did not stay in touch with Matt, but I was always impressed with his diligence and drive, even in the face of adversity. I'm sorry to hear of his passing, he was a unique individual.

Wow. Just, wow. Matt, you lucky sonovagun! You get to see Christ before me! You get to be in His presence, hearing from His lips "Well done, my good and faithful servant," FIRST! OK, ok, it's about time you beat me in something. Man, in my early days in Seattle, at Antioch, in the Oasis Ministry, you were pretty much my best friend. From that first moment that you pulled me outside to confide in me without even knowing me that well, asking for help in a battle against sin, to our crazy skits and shenanigans--you are the best kind of brother, man. And while your passing is a surprise, I feel fully confident that God gave you such a rich life. Of course I'm not talking about worldly wealth. I'm talking about relationships. I must say, Matt, if my son could walk a similar path to yours--a True American Hero that loves Jesus most--I would be immeasurably proud. I love you bro. Thank you for indelible memories of laughter in the Light. I look forward to joining you again, being the "new guy" again, in that New Jerusalem that we will all inhabit. I did not meet your family, but I will pray for their comfort and refuge in the loving arms of Jesus Christ. Yours has been a life lived fully, bro. A life lived well.

I am at a Harrier reunion this weekend and heard of my friend's passing. Matt and I went to TBS together and were roommates in Pensacola. We kept in touch over the years and he was a voice of counsel and challenged me in my own walk with the Lord. The peace and grace that he spent the last year was a direct result and gift from Christ and, to me, passes all understanding. He truly was a remarkable person and everyone that met him could see that. I will miss you my friend.

Tricia, Russ, Angela and Michael

I was so sorry to hear of Matt's passing. It was my honor to hire him for Boeing onto the F-22 program. I will always remember Matt as a dedicated, spirited, innovative engineer. I again had the opportunity to see the F-22 put through its paces this summer at a local airshow which brought back very proud memories of the contributions of everyone on my team in getting that first avionics software into flight. Matt was a key member of that team.

My very best regards to you all

Spent 2 years in 8th Company at USNA with Matt. Last saw him running our my class and mates through our paces at Quantico as part of our summer training in 1990. A fun-loving character of the highest moral fiber. Was just telling my own kids the other day about the humor Matt used to provide (and then I heard this). RIP, Matt.

To our dearest Stromberg Family,

Matt was so lucky to be amongst a great family in every direction. He did everything he could to honor all of you. He'll save us all a place with his Father in Heaven. Personally protected by a Marine. Doesn't get any better than that.

Love, Rick Rezabek and Cheryl Boberg
