Matthew P. Walls passed away unexpectedly at age 45 on December 7. Matt was born on June 14, 1977 in Onondaga, NY, and lived in Syracuse before his family relocated to the Reading area in Pennsylvania during his early childhood. Matt’s unique passion, talent, and creativity were apparent from a young age as were his business savvy and entrepreneurial spirit as he progressed into his teenage and young adult years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting & Marketing from The Wharton School in 2004 before embarking on a successful career in Procurement in the pharmaceutical industry. Matthew greatly valued education and professional growth and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics in 2012. His interests and hobbies included travel, golfing, and thrifting, and he especially enjoyed relaxing by a pool or on a sunny beach, preferably in a tropical location.
Matt is survived by his wife of 23 years, Amanda, and his children, Emerson and Ethan. He will also be deeply missed by his brother James Walls; sister Kristi Diaz; brother-in-law Jose Diaz; nephews and niece Evan, Eli, Lilia, and Samuel; and many more family members, friends, and colleagues.
Matthew’s enthusiasm and generosity will always be remembered, and he lived up to the meaning of his name, God’s gift. It is a comfort to know that Matt is with the Lord whom he professed as Savior and strove to follow from childhood.
A private memorial will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions towards his family’s living expenses may be sent to P.O. Box 882, Morrisville, PA 19067

Matt was my first boss at Bristol Myers Squibb and from the first moment we spoke I thought to myself, wow this guy is one of a kind. He had such warm energy, was so intelligent, open-minded, articulate and with very high emotional IQ. He would listen and mentor selflessly, always giving you ideas to live a full balanced life and better your career path. I used to joke with him that I see your true passion and calling as a Chief Human Resource Officer in some big global company shining as someone who truly cares for people. Such hunger for new ideas, creative and always open and progressive in his mindset. Words don´t do justice to convey how it feels to just not have Matt. It´s like the world lost a spark which it so needed, one which for sure would have been a great fire of inspiration, creativity and warmth. Matt I wish you so much peace and calm. You will be greatly missed. I will never know another like Matt.

I had the privilege to be in Matt's team while he was the head of the Bayer US Procurement Functional Leadership team. Matt inspires everyone and has the natural ability to motivate everyone to do their best. He was a great manager who believes in everyone's potential, and I will surely miss him.

I don't even know where to begin in writing this. I have known Matt for more than 20 years, and consider him one of my best friends in life. We met at school (Wharton); we were 2 in a group of 4-5 who have all remained friends despite geographic distances. We last spoke on October 28th - an hours-long evening phone catchup. (Many "quick chats" with Matt easily ran for hours!)
Rarely will you meet someone with Matt's zest for life, intellectual curiosity, determination, creativity, and overall good nature. When we first met, it was clear that Matt was born for business and entrepreneurship. Even among the Wharton crowd, Matt distinguished himself as someone with a wide range of interests and abilities, and the ability to apply himself - working hard and achieving whatever goals he set. As he advanced along the "corporate" path, he kept the old Wharton crowd fascinated with "side projects" including the mobile car wash, the second-hand shoes, and more. He was a Renaissance man with a Depression-era dose of frugality and grit.
Matt was a kind and generous person who cared deeply about his family, his faith, his friends, work colleagues, and - frankly - anyone he met. He was always willing to be a mentor, yet he was always looking to learn something new himself. He took nothing for granted. His smile, his wit, his way of telling a story, and his energy were captivating and inspiring. Life is meaningfully less interesting without the possibility of sharing a bit of it with Matt.

I am greatly saddened by this devastating news. As a distant cousin of Matt and seeing him lose his mother almost two years ago, I can't imagine the pain the immediate family is going through. My wife and I will be praying for the family. May God give His peace, strength and encouragement through this difficult time. John 3:16.

With a very heavy heart, I offer my deepest condolences to Amanda, Emerson, and Ethan. Our Father in Heaven blessed me with Matt’s friendship. Truly God’s gift. I loved my brother Matt’s enthusiasm, positive vibe, encouragement, and the list can go on and on. I’m not sure why God had our lives intersect but I am grateful to be known as his friend and brother in Christ. I will miss Matt beyond what I can express. I look forward to seeing him again. The steadfast love from our Lord never ceases, His mercies never end. True then and true now. May the Holy Comforter blanket the family in this season.

I am heartbroken to hear this tragic news. Although I did not know Matt personally, I spent long spells talking with his mom about how much she loved her kids - and the conversation always came around to Matthew, Amanda and their beloved children. With many tears flowing - I imagine them now - Mother and Son reunited. May the Lord throw open the floodgates of Heaven to comfort and care for Amanda, Emerson and Ethan, as only God can.
