Mattie Marie Lockhart

Mattie Marie Lockhart, 67, passed on October 24, 2024, in Memphis, TN. at Methodist Hospital South. Mattie was a lifelong resident of Memphis and a cherished member of the community.

Mattie was known for her love of music, old movies and singing. A homebody at heart, she reveled in the comfort of her home, enjoying games of Spades and filling the room with laughter through her unique sense of humor. She was affectionately known as Twinkey, a nickname that stayed with her throughout her life.

She attended Porter Jr. High School and Booker T. Washington High School. In her later years, she found spiritual solace and community at Southside Church of Christ, where she was baptized in the late 70s.

Mattie is survived by her daughters, Tammy Lockhart Dodd (James W.) and Yowanda Lockhart; granddaughter, T'zhipporaha; siblings Edward Johnson, Jr. (Beverly), Ruby Olivia Gray (Henry), Paul Millis Lockhart, and Christine Lockhart. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her deeply. Mattie was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mattie Will Moore, after whom she was named, her parents; Lucille and Rufus Ford Lockhart, and her brothers; Anthony Johnson, Grover Sidney Johnson and Rufus Mansfield Johnson.

Mattie will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her love for her family and her ability to bring joy to those around her through her music and laughter. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 24th at Southeastside Church of Christ, 4221 Riverdale Road, Memphis, TN 38141 at 1:00pm.
