Mattson Houghton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 17, 2025.
**Mattson Edward Houghton, 29**

Mattson Edward Houghton, 29, passed away on July 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 8, 1996, Mattson lived with a fierce spirit and an open heart that touched everyone who knew him.

From birth, Mattson faced health challenges that would have daunted many. He refused to let his conditions define him and instead carved out a life full of passion, laughter, and purpose. His resilience was matched only by his generosity-he gave of himself freely and loved without reservation.

Mattson's professional journey reflected his love for machines and the open road. He began his career in the auto industry as a mechanic and technician before transitioning to work on boats. But it was when he earned his CDL that he found his true calling-driving big trucks and operating heavy equipment, which brought him immense joy and pride.

Outside of work, Mattson embraced life with enthusiasm. He found peace and excitement in saltwater fishing and hunting, reveled in camping trips and trail rides on ATVS, and cherished any time spent near water. Whether playing video games online with his friends or simply being surrounded by friends and family, Mattson made every moment count.

He was known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, enormous heart, and unwavering loyalty. To be Mattson's friend was to have a friend for life-he saw the good in everyone and gave selflessly of himself to those around him. Age never mattered to him; connections did. His ability to love deeply left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mattson is lovingly remembered by his mother, Shyra; his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Sid Seccuro; his chosen sister, Catherine Mitchell; his aunts, Tanna Santangelo and Patience Westbury; his grandmother, Anita Meyer; his uncles, David Spann and Mark Loyd; and his cousins, John Joris, Kaden Spann, and Donavan and Darrell Loyd. He also leaves behind the Jorgensen and Ransom families, who stood by him as chosen family.

He now joins his father, Christopher Houghton; grandfather, Gene Meyer; and cousin, Dayton Spann in eternal rest.

In honor of Mattson's memory-and his enduring bond with his father-they will become part of an artificial memorial reef in Mexico Beach, a place they both held dear.

A celebration of Mattson's life will be held at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough, Ga. Those attending are invited to wear a shade of purple in honor of epilepsy awareness.

May the memory of Mattson Edward Houghton bring comfort to all who knew him. His light remains with us always.
