Maureen Fisk Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2024.

Maureen Louise Fisk (Ernie) of Dover, NH passed away on Monday December 23, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Maureen was born on February 12, 1953, in South Berwick, ME to Clifford and Meredith Ernie. A graduate of Marshwood High School, Maureen was a longtime advocate of women's rights, an avid bird watcher, a lover of nature, a skilled thrifter, fashionista and a gifted artist. However, she was never happier than when she was surrounded by her partner, children and grandchildren.

Maureen's imagination was vast, she loved holidays and made them magical for her grandchildren. Her haunted basements at Halloween were legendary and she always had extra if you were short a costume. Maureen loved a parade and cheered at fireworks. At Christmas her spirit of giving was tremendous. Long after presents were passed out and unwrapped, Maureen could be found handing out "Bonus Gifts".

After her diagnosis, Maureen made it her mission to educate those around her about PSP. This included her doctors. She was part of clinical trials at Mass General Hospital hoping to be a part of the cure for those who have PSP in the future. In June of 2023 she encouraged her family to run the Strawberry Festival Race and raise money to support PSP research. Despite her deteriorating condition Maureen came to the race, handed out pamphlets about PSP, and cheered each member of her team as they crossed the finish line.

Maureen is survived by her longtime partner, David Johnson, who fought PSP by Maureen's side from her diagnosis to the very end.

She is also survived by her children Heather Drew and her spouse Tim McKie, Angela (Drew) Theos and spouse Jim, Derek Drew and spouse Sandra, and Scott Drew and spouse Courtney; her 9 grandchildren Henry and Charlie McKie, Adelaide Wilson and her husband Ben, Makayla, Liam, Jaxon, Dashiell, Luka, and Lana Drew; her mother Meredith Ernie; sister Marlene Wittner; as well as her nieces Nicole D'Amico, Kristin Wittner, and her nephew Ryan Wittner.

Maureen was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed by all she came in contact with. An open-house style celebration of Maureen's life will be held on Sunday, January 5th from 3:00-5:00pm at the Somersworth Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 35 Tate's Brook Rd, Somersworth, NH.

In lieu of flowers Maureen asked that donations be made to CurePSP. Donations can be sent to: CurePSP, 325 Hudson Street 4th Floor New York, NY 10013, or online at www.psp.org.

I will always remember Maureen fondly for her very loving and kind spirit. Last year, when traveling was so difficult for her, Maureen and Dave made a trip to Concord so that my son, daughter-in-law, my two grandchildren and I could meet for lunch. Maureen wasn't even able to eat lunch with us at that point, but she was kind enough to make the journey. I also remember that every time she came to visit us in Florida she brought me well-thought-out and unique gifts.

Another very memorable thing about Maureen is that she possessed such a creative flare. I always admired her style of dress and the unique pieces that she could put together unlike anyone else. To this day, I don't know how she did it, but I always looked forward to seeing what outfits she would create!

In addition, I will never forget how much Maureen enjoyed playing Skip-Bo, a card game, with our family. She was a fierce competitor and frequently won!

I will miss you Maureen, but I do thank you for the beautiful memories I will cherish. Dave's sister, Jacklyn Cramton

Maureen was a loving soul with a beautiful smile. She was amazingly creative. I am so blessed to have shared grandparenting with her. I will miss our eclectic chats while grandchildren clambered for our attention. I am so grateful that her partner, Dave, captured so many memories for us all. May she fly high with the angels. Love and prayers for all.
