Maureen Macken Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2023.
Maureen Patricia Macken of Flowery Branch, GA passed peacefully on the morning of Sunday, October 29, 2023 in hospice after a recurrence of breast cancer, which she battled bravely for over five years without complaint. Maureen was a devoted wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend.

Maureen was born on December 2, 1946 at Misericordia Hospital in New York City and was the seventh of ten children to Mr. and Mrs. George J. Clancy of Jackson Heights, NY.

Maureen is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Robert Macken, and her five beloved children: Thomas Macken (Mary Kai) of Alpharetta, GA, Kerry Macken Veerapen of Flowery Branch, GA, Patricia Broderson (Ross) and Katherine Ramsey (Jeff) of Atlanta, GA, and Daniel Macken (Eleanor) of Asheville, NC.

The light of her life were her twelve grandchildren: Will, Kate, Jack, Kailey, Ashleigh, Kevin, Lauren, Brooke, Whit, Rex, Robbie and Annie, who gave her endless joy and pride.

Maureen is survived by five siblings: Lauretta Leddy, Tom Clancy, Richard Clancy, Edward Clancy and Eileen Clancy, as well as over thirty nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lauretta Clancy, an infant son Robert Macken, and four siblings: Patricia Varley, George Clancy, Daniel Clancy, and Kathleen Billings.

Maureen led a very full and active life and enjoyed reading, hiking, travel and most of all being together with family. She spent many hours volunteering at Prince of Peace Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, home visitor for St. Vincent de Paul, pantry volunteer, and mentor for engaged couples. She was also very active on the social committee for the Empty Nester Group at Sterling on the Lake for many years.

Maureen valued her faith in God, her family and her many friends and will be greatly missed. She was a good and faithful servant and leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love.

May she rest in peace
