Maurice Hines

My sincere sympathy and condolences in the loss of Maurice Hines. I met Maurice at Broadway Dance Center when I was dancing with Frank Hatchett. I also when on a audition for Sophisticated Ladies and had no Tap experience at all mind you. My dear friend Shirley Black - Brown did that!! Maurice was a gentle soul with a beautiful Spirit and Smile. The good old days on 57th and Broadway with Frank Hatchett and Maurice with Kool and the Gang studio on the 2nd floor. Maurice was always full of energy and giving you advice in the crazy world of Dance. Dance in Peace Maurice for you will be sorely missed!! I would love running into you at any given time from Uptown to Midtown.

I WAS YOUNG WHEN I SAW THE HINES BROTHERS MAURICE AND GREGORY AND FROM DAY 1 I WAS A FAN THEY WAS TALENTED LOVEABLE AND GREAT MEN MAY HE REST IN HEAVEN AND TAP WITH HIS BROTHER RIGHT THRU THISE PEARLY GATES....

I was told a story by a mutual friend about Maurice and Gregory and Tallulah Bankhead in Las Vegas. I had just had a gouache portrait of her, which I bought at auction, framed.
The story was so compelling, I gave it to my friend to gift to Maurice, who called me and thanked me.
What a gracious, talented person.

R I P Maurice Hines. The world will miss you. GOD has called you home to be with your beloved parents and brother, Gregory Hines. To his family, please do not let the Hines legacy be forgotten.

My sincere condolences to the Hines family .Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. I am reminded of the times I viewed Maurice . His dancing ,singing and acting made him a legend . Remembering you and your loved one today and always . May God grant you solace .

Maurice and I were lifelong friends for the last 63 years. He was the most sincere and kindest person I´ve ever known. He was interested in you for you, and once that bond was created, he never abandoned the friendship.
I spoke to him even labored just 2 days before he passed. I will miss him but grateful to have had our lives crossed.
He was in a league of his own.

I´m very sad to hear of his death but I´m also pleased to say he & his brother were absolutely incredible dancers & overall entertainers! Whenever & wherever they performed, WE were sure to see "BRILLANCE-at-its-BEST!"

Such a remarkable and memorable dancer, both with his brother and in his own right. Many will miss this wonderful entertainer. May God grant strength and comfort to you all.

I've spent many of my own life's hours watching and admiring this gentleman's tap dancing talents, performed with his equally talented brother. I can't imagine the pride your family must have had for y'all's successes. The beautiful part is that your fame didn't change your attitude. Every interview I've watched of you on TV has always left my heart praising, "Wow, what a guy!"

An amazing dancer that entertained so many over the years. It was always so exciting to watch him. Sincere condolences to the Hines family, May God be with you to give strength and comfort to help you through your time of loss.

I was a young girl and I recall Mr. Hines and his brother dancing and smiling and that memory is etched in my heart forever.

It was the summer of 1967. I was a young 12 year old boy on vacation in Hollywood Florida with my parents, brother and sister. We were staying at my great aunt's apt, across the street from the Diplomat East-West, where Hines, Hines & Dad were staying. My family went to see HH&D's show one evening and I was smitten. I loved the show and made it my business to go over to meet HH&D the following day while they were hanging out at their hotel's pool. Maurice and Gregory were so kind and hospitable to me that day; a day I remember so clearly in my mind, a mere 53 years later. I felt deeply saddened when Gregory passed a number of years ago, and feel the same today, knowing I'm now the only person who can recall that day.
Rest in peace Maurice, give your brother a high-give when you two meet again, and thanks for the memories of a great day in a young boy's life.
