In loving memory of our dear brother Maurice on the 13th anniversary of his death.
We both enjoyed watching tennis and would do so together over the phone as he lived in Texas and I live in Toronto, Canada. I do miss those times but am glad he still lives on in our hearts!

Father´s Day is Sunday, June 19, 2022.
I remember a surprise getaway that he received on a Father´s Day weekend. It was a trip to the Gulf of Mexico. Maurice Hope-Thompson speechless? Yes, speechless! He was happy! He deserved it and more. He gave so much to others. He was a great man!
Let´s pay it forward in his memory and make others smile too.

In loving memory of my brother Maurice. I can't believe it's been 12 years since he's left us!
'What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived and that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.'

In light of these difficult times, you would be having thought provoking interviews on KTSU which in the end would reassure your listeners that everything is going to be alright. Why? Because you knew that, All power, in heaven and on earth, is in his hand. A friendly reminder to everyone who knew and loved you. Hold on to your faith. The change is coming.

The last 10 days were filled with memories of previous years celebrating your birthday and then your last celebration. I often picture you with your cap on backwards, sitting with Jesus with your first 100 questions. Followed by what we now call "selfies" to document the event.
You are forever missed and never forgotten. Your friend,

You passed away eight years ago today ( January 4, 2010). You are gone but never forgotten. You joined the great crowd of witnesses. We hear your voice in our hearts and minds encouraging us to fight the good fight of Faith. Ciao!

Remembering you on your birthday!
The absence of your love, with your vast body of knowledge, wisdom, and kindness which you shared with us liberally, moves us to pay it forward.
May the lives you touched continue to plant seeds in good soil; producing a great harvest of men and women; for today, tomorrow and the future.

I am forever grateful for Maurice. He was a great friend. We were at TSU and I was on staff at Windsor. So we had great conversations. For my wife, Pastor Yolande Herron-Palmore, and myself 25th Anniversary, he photographed our renewal of vows and later presented us a gift book with all the pictures for our renewal ceremony. He is greatly missed.

It has been six years ago today, January 4, 2010, since the Lord called you home. Remembering that glorious day! To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Thank you for the many seeds that you planted before you departed your life on earth. We see them growing in our lives and the lives of others.

My favorite memories of Maurice was seeing him capture memories during various functions at Windsor Village like baptisms, weddings, etc. He always had the biggest smile on his face and was always pleasant to interact with. Missing him...

Wow, how time flies. Maurice, you are forever a part of my life, I think of you and still talk about you often...and I always will. Dude, you were my awesome mentor. While working for you on the Kingdom Builders Herald, you helped me hone my love for photography and gave me the courage to photograph people instead of buildings and plant life...photographing people use to scare the bejesus out of me lol. Because of the assignments you sent me on, I fell head over heals in love with photographing the things God was doing inside of the church, the signing, the dancing, the healing, the love, the tears, the joy, the preaching, life changing events...as well as events where God was present outside of the church. Maurice, you kept me pumped, confident and excited about photography. I miss you so much. I wish I could talk to you right now. Its funny how certain people just seem to understand parts of you that no one else does. You understood. Dude...I miss you soooo much! Happy Birthday Bro!

I miss your confident, loving presence in our lives. You worked hard for what you wanted to achieve. You never gave up because the goal seemed out of reach and you always maintained your faith in God.
Your visits with me were such a pleasure and delight, because I got the opportunity to do something for you. Your going remains a surprise but we know you had to go, because you were called. Peace, my brother.

Maurice Hope Thompson made my day each morning as I drove to work listening to his radio program on KTSU. His passing has left a void in Houston, and I miss his thoughtful words.
February 5, 2011
I thank God for the way he made Maurice . . . unique, caring, funny, just a real special person. He was truly not made from a standard mold. As I think back over the past 18 years, Maurice was a greatest encourager of education and self-improvement in people that I had ever met. Although, he could be a private person, he never met a stranger. Striving to share knowledge with anyone and everyone in his presence. Over the years, he became one of my best friends, sharing the good times and supportive during life's challenges. It's been 13 months now, I still miss my dear friend, but I take comfort in knowing that he is with our Heavenly Father, doing what he does best.
Friends are the most important part of our lives. I will treasure the tears, treasure the laughter and times that brought great joy, but most importantly, I will treasure the memories.
Sheila Darling, friend forever

I am often in denial, but this entry makes me face the truth, at least for the moment (it comes and goes). I miss my favourite uncle. It’s not a good thing to say, to say you have a favourite someone, but there it is.
And now, a selfish thing: I miss his faith in me. When he wasn’t trash talking my poor tennis game, he was inviting me on his radio show to extemporize on videogames because he knew I played them and believed (though I didn’t) that I would have something interesting to say.
Last, a heartbreaking thing: two weeks before he left us, he promised to be at my wedding which was coming up. On the day, I imagined him giving hugs, snapping pictures, there with us. Looking back now, it’s nice to feel as though he was.
But it’s not the same.

I have known Maurice for over 40 years having met his sister, Pat and the rest of his family in Stony Hill, in 1969. We never lived in the same country at any given time but we were always in touch. I found him to be an ethical, humane, friendly, loving, humorous and enthusiastic brother-in-law.
I will miss him.

I miss my brother. We usually spoke on Saturday or Sunday nights and even now, a year later, I find myself wanting to call and tell him something of interest. And then I remember - he is not there. He would make the long trip from Houston to spend a week with us, going to church, taking photos of events, reading, talking until late. He was special and very blessed. I miss my brother.

I extend my sincere condolences to the family. I met Maurice Hope-Thompson when I was a member of Windsor Village UMC. I volunteered to assist with the church newspaper and he was a mentor. He was always warm and friendly and displayed a Christian attitude. He was a joy to work with and caused most to want to aspire. I also enjoyed his radio program. Gone but never forgotten.

I regret not meeting Maurice in person; but I was so proud of his polished eloquence when I watched him on TV many years ago back in Jamaica. His many accomplishments are admirable. He has certainly left his footprints in the sands of time. May his soul rest in peace. He will always be remembered.

Our loved ones will remain with us, for love itself lives on; Cherished memories don't disappear because loved ones are gone.
Though unseen, they'll never be more than a thought apart,
As long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.
HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED.

Our parents were friends, so I knew him even before we met as boarders at Jamaica College in 1953. It is indeed gratifying to learn from the tributes how well he managed to exploit his God given skills and talents, and how significant an impact he had on the persons within his sphere of influence.
Joy and his other siblings can take comfort in this as they grieve his passing.
I wish God's richest blessings for you all

I met Maurice in high school and from quite early he established himself as a go-getter and leader. It is gratifying to have read in the previous tributes how he fulfilled the promise shown from the late fifties. I hope that is a comfort to his family and friends.

January 25, 2010
I can’t remember when the, “in-law” dropped, however as a part of the Thompson family for what is now more than twenty-three years it was inevitable. My name is Yvonne Thompson and I am the wife of Peter, the youngest of the Thompson siblings, this time has been quite difficult for me to grasp. Within five months both brothers went to be with the Lord.
Maurice was one of my biggest fans and greatest cheerleaders when I went back to school to pursue my degree. However, long ago I had found the way to his heart through his stomach, whenever he came to visit; I would always cook and pack food and juice for him to take with him on the rest of his journey.
Over the years he has been one of my main suppliers of cook books, and anything to do with food history. My brother was well versed in religion, travel, politics; you mention it and he would provide a wealth of facts and information. He inspired me to delve and research everything that interests me; he kept us on our toes. He wasn’t religious, Maurice was deeply spiritual, and he didn’t waste his time on just talking. Whenever he opened his mouth, we knew that something important would be said.
I am blessed to be a part of the Thompson family; I am blessed to have had such a loving and dedicated husband, and blessed to call Maurice Hope-Thompson my brother. I am so sorry that I missed the services, however this was quite immobilizing for me. I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and deeds.

Dr. Maurice Hope-Thompson was an incredible inspiration. He touched my life both personally and professionally, and I will truly miss his smile and his kind words.
I met Dr. Hope-Thompson when he was one of my professors at Prairie View A&M University, and was blessed to see him from time to time at Windsor Village UMC. He was always uplifting, caring and full of wisdom. A true angel while he was here on earth, and now, as he is in heaven.
My condolences go out to his family and friends, and the many others whose lives he touched. He will be dearly missed.

Dear Family,
I wish to express my heartfelt condolences for a wonderful creation of God, Mr. Maurice Hope-Thompson. I had the pleasure of studying under his brilliance, and basking in his loving warmth and kindness. I was a non-traditional student who returned to college to obtain my degree after my youngest child graduated high-school. Often I felt inadequate and out of place among the young students, but Professor Hope-Thompson encouraged me to have faith in myself and my life experience. I will forever remember the effervescent smile that radiated the unconditional kindness and genuine concern he exhibited on and off campus. Take comfort in the fact that you were loved immeasurably and completely by a true son of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and God our father. Remember the melodic and soothing voice of a great orator. Be blessed!
We must say goodbye. He wouldn’t want to hear us cry... A sweeter man we'll never ever meet. In our hearts we'll never FORGET!! The angels came to take him home, now we are left on earth to roam. His time was long, yet too short. To memories now we must resort. For everyone he had a smile. And he loved to sit and talk for awhile. Now in our hearts Maurice still lives on. Until our time on earth is gone. Then once again we'll join our friend. Together in time that will NEVER END!!!

I was shocked to learn of Mr. Hope-Thompson's passing this morning while listening to KTSU. I listened to his show often on Saturday mornings, and called in a few times. I found him to be extremely intelligent, knowledgeable and a great example in our community. Although we know "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord", his presence will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to those who knew and loved him.

I was saddened to hear of the loss of a dear friend. Although we no longer worked so closely with one another, our friendship would always remain as close at it did when we stayed up late late nights working on our favorite newspaper, the Kingdom Builders' Herald (Windsor Village UMC). My heart will be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as we all celebrate a life well lived.
