William Bevels Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 3, 2014.
Mr. William Lee Bevels was born on August 26, 1926 in Pilot Point, TX to the parentage of Albert J. Bevels Sr. and Elizabeth Taylor Bevels. At the age of 2, his family relocated to Sherman, TX. Of 12 children, he was the baby and last surviving Bevels sibling. William attended Fred Douglass School. He was united in marriage to Lucy Faye Dehorney on January 6, 1945. To this union, 4 beautiful children were born: Linda Burks, Almeta Delores Bevels, Walter Lee Bevels, and Joyce Charles.
Mr. Bevels served in the U.S. military for a number of years. After his service to his country, he pursued a career as a butcher and meat packer for over 20 years. William then pursued a new career as a custodian for Bank One. After retiring from Bank One, he was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fields. For William, he didn't consider Mr. and Mrs. Fields as employers, but more like family. For 30 years, William had the privilege to work for such great people.
Mr. Bevels was very influential in his community. He served as an election judge for the county and received many community awards and commendations, such as "Church and Community Involvement Award", "Certificate of Service for the Southside Community", and many more. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and began to work in the Methodist Church. He was a very active, supportive, and loyal member of Daniel Gray C.M.E. Church and later Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church. He faithfully served in the choir, Steward Board and was the past treasurer of the Lay Organization.
Some may have known William by "Lil Daddy" and will remember his famous sayings such as: "Baby, I'm back! Take your time going, but hurry back! I tease 'em to please 'em! You can hug her, but don't hold her too long! I'm a meat cutter by trade and a butcher by profession! If I can't cut your meat, I don't deserve your business! I'm a hot papa from a cool climate! Beautiful, just beautiful! Young enough to know and old enough to do! Baby, it hurts! They don't call me Lil Daddy for nothing! Baby, I just like to have fun!"
