Maurice McKeon Jr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2024.
Maurice Raymond McKeon Jr., known affectionately as Ray, passed away on August 20, 2024, at the age of 79, in Metairie, LA. Born on September 1, 1944, in New Orleans, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his faith, and his community.

Ray graduated from Redemptorist High School, and shortly thereafter, he proudly served in the Louisiana National Guard, where he developed a lifelong commitment to service. After his military tenure, Ray embarked on a successful career in the grocery business, where he was known for his personable nature and strong work ethic.

A devout member of the Williams Blvd Baptist Church, Ray's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He is remembered by many for his long term commitment to teaching 4th grade Sunday school. He was deeply involved in church activities and cherished the community it brought into his life.

Beyond his professional and spiritual life, Ray was a passionate coach for his children's sports teams. He was a familiar face on the sidelines, always ready with encouragement and guidance. His love for his family was unparalleled. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Sharon McKeon, and a loving father to his daughters, Tracy Fisher (Jimmy) and Shannon Diodene (Donnie). He was also a proud grandfather to Jacob Fisher (Sophia), Matthew Fisher, and Kaylee Elisabeth Diodene.

Ray will be remembered for his warm heart, resilience, and the deep bonds he formed with those around him. His legacy will live on through his family, the many lives he touched, and the community he helped build. His family will hold a private ceremony to honor his life and memory.

We are so heartbroken with and for Mr. Ray´s entire family! Our hearts go out to each and every one of y´all! Mr. Ray was such an inspiration to me and my husband! 30 plus years ago, Mr. Ray approached Troy and I to teach 3rd grade Sunday school! At first we were not interested in leaving our young couples Sunday School class because we absolutely loved our class and teachers, Dan and Arienne! Mr. Ray simple said "Pray about it and God will lead us!" (I have goose bumps telling this amazing story and btw, Kaylee always loved when I was sharing stories of Jesus and got goose bumps! She would come closer to my desk to see and touch them)! We did just as Mr. Ray asked of us! Troy and I both prayed together and in our separate pray times! Oh boy, Mr. Ray was so incredibly right! God answered us both and it´s because of Mr. Ray that we answered God´s calling on our life! I´m so incredibly thankful that God blessed us with the opportunity to serve along side of Mr. Ray for over 30 years! He was an awesome mentor and inspiration, not only to us but to so many! Mr. Ray and Mrs. Sharon are so loving and kind to everyone they came in contact with and it shows in their children and grandchildren! My husband also loved and enjoyed cooking along side of Mr. Ray every month for the men´s breakfast for over 20 years! Mr. Ray knew how much I loved his sausage gravy so he would always save some for me! Oh how we love and adore this amazing family and will continue lifting them up to Jesus as they navigate through this very difficult time! With all our love, Troy & Melanie

Sharon, Tracy and Shannon I am so sorry to hear of Ray´s passing. He loved you all so much but his body was tired. You now have two beautiful angels watching over you. Praying for your family.
