I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mauril Belanger for his remarkable political contributions to our beautiful country of Canada. In particular I feel very thankful for his incredible determination to ensure that our wonderful National Anthem is inclusive of both males and females..indeed of all Canadians. This vital change has been long over-due. His remarkable courage and extraordinary efforts to ensure this change was accomplished were truly incredulous. What a wonderful legacy to leave our beautiful country. With deepest appreciation. May you rest in peace, and blessings to your family and friends.

Catherine and Barclay, I wanted to send along my condolences and those of my mother, Martha Nixon. We knew Mauril initially as our MP, but then of course through my connection with Barclay. Although I did not know him well, Mauril always seemed a man of strength and conviction. It was lovely to see the support that he received from Canadians and Parliamentarians in his last weeks/months - a wonderful tribute to his impact.

Wishing you the best.

Mr. Bélanger was a people person through and through. It was clear that he loved his job and he loved working for the people in his riding. I got to know Mr. Bélanger through his role as Liberal Advocate for Co-operatives. To say he was passionate about co-ops is an understatement! He relished this new role and deeply believed in the co-op model. I was always struck by how he would attend our small local co-op events. It showed he cared and was sincere. The saying that he was the most decent man in politics rings so true. My thoughts are with his family, colleagues and many friends at this difficult time. Merci, Mr. Bélanger.

Dear Catherine, I was saddened at the news of Mauril's passing-on. I will forever be in his debt because of his kind and empathetic help to make my first "International One-person Exhibition" of my paintings, come to happen in Tokyo in April 1985. Mauril, as a special assistant to Jean-Luc Pepin(my own Member of Parliament), located sponsorship from CP-Air to donate the shipping of my paintings and myself. This elevated my career to a new plateau. Thank you Mauril. Rest in gentle peace.

Simone

I have wonderful memories of Mauril when we worked together for the Honorable Jean-Luc Pepin many years ago. It was widely expected at that time that with Mauril's political interest and ability, he would run, and win, someday and what an excellent Member of Parliament he proved to be! He will be deeply missed. My condolences go out to Catherine and to all his family. With deepest sympathy. Claire O'Connor

So sorry for your loss, I read many great things about Mauril and he was a wonderful man with lots of strength and courage. You all are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Mauril helped to found the Funeral Co-operative of Ottwa and was a staunch supporter of co-operative as a model for consumer empowerment across Canada

Mauril was a wonderful example of an honourable politician who revelled in serving his constituents and advocating for a strong Canada. He did more to commemorate the 50t Anniversary of the Canadian flag in February 2015 than any other MP or the government. Thanks for the gender neutral national anthem. Condolences to Catherine and the family. While he will be missed much, we are all richer for his service to Canada. (Picture is of Mauril Belanger chairing a forum on the Future of the Public Service in June 2005 with senior union leaders, Liberal candidates and others. As usual done with panache!)
