I enjoyed a train trip on the Ghan with you and my old year child. In you and I celebrated my 35th birthday on the Ghan. You were a delightful travelling companion who I found very warm and interesting.

Dear Mavis, you were a formidable lady, with a big heart and a sharp mind, a fierce fighter for justice and equity. I first met you in Paris, in my parents' house in Meudon in the early 1980s. I remember passionate discussions on the state of the world. You and Peter and Marjorie were very kind and generous to me when I first arrived in Sydney. You will always have a very special place in my heart. My wife Ilza and our son Graham join me in expressing our sincere condolences to Peter, Marjorie, Alec and Molly.
