Max Coates Max passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 12, 2011. Max was born December 15, 1923 on a farm near Leask, Saskatchewan to John and Hazel Coates. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Nancy; sons, Grant (Deborah) and Greg (Marlene); daughter, Kim (Morley) Ayars; granddaughter, Stacey Coates; and grandsons, Todd Coates, Dwayne (Valerie) Ayars and Scott (Robyn) Ayars. Family left to cherish his memory are sisters, Helen Baker, Joan Bell and Eileen (Earle) Olson; brothers, Walter (Marcia), Doug (Merle) and Tim (Isabel) Coates; along with many nieces and nephews. Max was predeceased by his loving first wife of 29 years, Sylvia; parents, John (Hazel) Coates; sister, Laura Smith; parents in law, Wilf (Elsie) Beck; brothers in law, Alec Smith, Thomas Bell and Lloyd Baker. Max worked for CP Rail for 39 years. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking, genealogy and numerous physical activities, including skiing and Masters Track. He loved spending time with his family and close friends. A Celebration of Max's Life will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Christian Centre (102 Pinehouse Dr., Saskatoon) conducted by Pastor Keith Johnson. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Food For The Hungry International (FH Canada), IMED, 1225 Avenue W South, Saskatoon, SK, S7M 5W7. To the Coates family, we remember Max from when we lived in Saskatoon and visited Grant & Deb. He also did some fine carpentry work for us. We are so sorry for your loss.
