Max Huddleston Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2015.
Max Alan Huddleston was born July 11, 1957 to Virginia and Max Leroy Huddleston in Norman, Oklahoma. To avoid confusion with his father, he went by Alan or "Al."

Alan was dedicated to his family and his neighborhood, with a special gift for making children laugh. He worked a wide variety of jobs, including running several small businesses, managing restaurants, working in apartments, and working briefly as a professional magician. Though often shy in crowds, he was always a character at work who found ways to make jokes and brighten people's day.

He is survived by his wife Alison, his mother, his brother Ray and wife Connie, as well as his son Keith and wife Beth. He was preceded in death last year by his father.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Primrose Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Harry Smith officiating.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Research Institute.

I first met Max when I was looking to rent the house next door. He came out and we chatted and a friendship started. He always made me laugh and we would tease each other mercilessly across the fence that divided our yards or on his front porch where people were always welcome. I actually thought Keith was his step son at first b/c he'd refer to him as his wife's son-- just one example of Max's quirky teasing sense of humor. My cat Puddy would visit Max in the wee hours of the morning when he drank his coffee on the back porch and he called Puddy his "Coffee Cat" and referred to my pup as "Beetle Dog". I'll always remember those little things.
Max was somebody I knew I could count on and when he offered his son's house across the street for me to rent, he became the best landlord a girl could ask for. I wanted for nothing and knew he constantly kept an eye out for me and the place. It gave me a sense of security knowing he was there.
But he wasn't just a good friend and neighbor to me; he and Alison are what unites our neighborhood. Their house is like a magnet, drawing people to them to chat and laugh about their day-to-day lives. This especially included the neighborhood children who were also drawn to the Huddleston household and found some of the sweetest and most generous babysitters in Max and Alison.
I didn't realize how much Max was a part of my life until this last week when I would get ready in the mornings for work or come home after and no longer see him sitting on the front porch with a smile and a wave to greet me or tease me about the latest boy I'm dating. It's these little things that I will miss the most. But, I'm grateful to have known him these past few years. Max was a good man who touched the lives of many and he will be dearly missed.

My husband and I first met Alan & Alison when we all four worked at an apartment complex in OKC. His pranks, laughter and calm, easy-going spirit will never be forgotten. We miss him dearly and pray for much strength and peace for his family.

Character is the perfect word to describe Alan. When we were younger, he always seemed so much more mature than his years would suggest..until the relentless teasing would start. But I soon figured out if he teased you, it meant he liked you and could take it as much as he could give it. I am shocked and saddened by his passing. God keep his family and friends close.

Dear Huddleston family, especially Virginia, Alison, Ray, Connie, Keith and Beth: This is one thing I will always remember and cherish about Alan...he was a totally authentic person. He had no pretense, no "image" issues. Alan said what he thought, and he thought deeply and passionately. This is a rare quality in today's politically correct atmosphere. Alan was true to his values. He was a rare and precious man who will be missed by...Betty B. Brown
