Max Dean Murrow of Union, Kentucky, passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 81 after a battle with cancer. He will be laid to rest at the Kentucky Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Williamstown, KY.

Max is preceded in death by: his parents, William Murrow and Minnie Murrow, and two brothers, Kenneth Murrow and Fred Murrow (spouse Brenda).

He is survived by: his wife, Sharon Murrow; his siblings, Rev. Mitchell Murrow (spouse Faye deceased), Shirley Hoover (spouse Charles deceased), twin Maxine Hinkle (spouse Wayne deceased); his children, Michelle Maynard (spouse Joe Williams) and Abigail Shean; his stepchildren, Melissa Connelly and Mike Connelly (spouse Elaine); his grandchildren, Alexander Connette (spouse Angel), Amanda Connette, and Tyler Shean; his step grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson (spouse Evan) and Kearston Connelly. He is also survived by six nephews and six nieces (two nephews deceased).

The son of Mr. & Mrs. William C. Murrow of Thomasville/High Point, NC, Max spent the early part of his life in High Point and was known for being a fiery redhead with a passion for sports. He was a star halfback for High Point Senior High School (now Central High) and graduated from there in 1962. He continued his education in business management at King's College in Charlotte, NC, and went into the US Army during his time there. Stationed at Fort Eustis in Newport News, VA, Private Murrow was assigned to the 117th Transportation Company to serve his country in Vietnam. Upon his return, he was stationed at Fort Bliss (a.k.a. "Fort Blister") in Texas.

Returning to Greensboro, NC, Max continued his education in business management and graduated from Guilford College. He then worked in the Sales and Contracts department of the family-owned Murrow's Transfer until a business opportunity in the restaurant industry took him to Richmond, VA. After deciding to sell Stuffy's Sub Shop, which he owned and operated in Virginia, he returned to Thomasville, NC. He began driving the long-haul route from North Carolina to the Kentucky/Ohio area for Murrow's Transfer. During this time, he met Sharon Connelly. They married in October of 1996, making Union, KY, their home. In his later years, Max owned and operated a company called Affordable Water Handling.

What Max enjoyed most about being a business owner and a truck driver was the opportunity it gave him to engage in good conversation with his customers. He never met a stranger and loved to interact with people, making jokes and maybe sparking a political debate. He also treasured the phone conversations he had with his siblings that kept them connected even though they were miles apart.

Max shared his love of sports, listening to music, and the NC coast with his family. He enjoyed pier-fishing with his dad, taking his daughters to live music events, and bowling with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid fan of Duke basketball, the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins), and the Cincinnati Reds, and rarely missed a televised event. An ideal day for Max would include watching back-to-back games with a bowl of Graeter's peanut butter chip ice cream. When his children or grandchildren could catch a game with him, he loved to teach them football terms or share a few anecdotes about his glory days.

Max had a heart for dogs, and there was rarely a time in his life when he was without one. If you would like to provide a home for a pet or donate in honor of Max, please contact the Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network by visiting reddogfarm.com.
