Maxene Smith Obituary
Maxene married Douglas Charles Smith of Harrington Park, New Jersey, and together they created a warm, Christ-centered home. Rooted in her calling to help others, Maxene devoted her career to education, serving her community as an elementary-school reading specialist. Her gentle guidance encouraged and shaped generations of young learners.
A dedicated member of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, Maxene served Jesus Christ faithfully throughout her life. Her days reflected her convictions-offering compassion, encouragement, and hospitality to all who knew her.
Maxene is survived by her beloved daughters, Jocelyn Mousel and Amy (Gregory) Matthews; four cherished grandchildren, Allison (Russ) Leaptrott, Jakob (Alexis) Mousel, Eleanor (Michael) Olson, Avery Matthews and two great grandchildren; and sister, Leslie (Gregory) Hood. Maxene's playful spirit, selfless heart, and deep devotion to family and faith will be remembered always.
A joint Celebration of Life honoring both Maxene and Douglas Smith will be held on Friday, May 29th at The Chapel in the Woods at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, at 1pm.
