Maxine Kersbergen Allen

I only got to meet Maxine one time when she was visiting my mother (Pat Kappelman) here in California. I knew right away that she was a very special lady who truly touched the hearts of those who knew her.



I was able to see a few of her Christmas messages and was quite impressed with her love for life and travel. She always seemed to be on the go and enjoying her retirement to the very maximum.



I am sure her family, friends, and former students all have lots of great memories to share. I only know that she was a very special person from whom we could all learn a lot about living life well.



She will truly be missed!

Aunt Maxine was the most special lady and I always thought of her as one of God's angels here on earth. She touched each and every person she would meet with care and love. There are so many kind things I could write about her and I am sure you all know could add to the list. I will miss you so much. Love Patty

Aunt Maxine was my favorite aunt, as I was growing up, though we didn't often see her and her family, as we so frequently relocated. She was loving and sensitive and hospitable. Aunt Maxine, Harold, Max and Carole and their children, and Kristy and her family, I believe, visited us in Pella shortly after my husband (Lee) was graduated from Central College, concurrent with the birth of our son Mark. That was not, however, the first time Aunt Maxine and Harold had visited us, as they came to Pella and visited us and Grandpa Henry Kersbergen on several occasions. The Kersbergen-Allen household seemed so "normal." Education was valued; children were loved and nurtured. The sound of piano playing added to the sense of warmth and welcome on those few occasions when I visited there with my parents and sister. Church was important to Aunt Maxine and her family, as it was to me and is to our present family. (Lee is a minister in the PCUSA, ordained 38 years ago.) To my cousins Max, Larry, and Kristy and to your spouses, children, and grandchildren, I extend my condolences and love. Aunt Maxine left an impression on the lives and in the hearts of more persons than you will probably ever be aware--as a teacher, as a caring person, and as a wise woman with a zest for life. My greatest regret, as I've become aware of her passing, is that I had not been in touch with her in the years since our leaving the Midwest. I never took the opportunity to tell her how much I admired her, how much she meant to me, or how much I appreciated the role-model which she was, in fact, for me.

Memories of the Big-G. Blackwater stew, rock hunting, ant farms, turtle races, cookies, Chex mix, the little white house on Dunberry Lane, the way she said "Hello" on the phone, the daily solitare game, really to many to mention...I will miss you, until we meet again.
