WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral services for Maxine Corbett Gleaton, 81, will be held 4pm Sunday, March 5, 2006 in Grace Chapel Community Church, officiated by Reverend Steven B. Fowler. Interment will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4pm, one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Chapel Community Church Youth Mission Fund, 663 Dixiana Road, West Columbia, SC 29172. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gleaton, widow of Harold Jeffcoat Gleaton, Sr., died Thursday, March 2, 2006. Born in Pelion, SC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Elliott Sr., and Gertrude Knotts Corbett. She was a longtime resident of West Columbia and a member of Grace Chapel Community Church. Motherhood and homemaking were her greatest calling. The children and grandchildren are thankful to God for her special assets that included a nurturing nature, honesty and straight forwardness, an appreciation for the simple things, a wonderful sense of humor, the ability to see the good in everyone and the brighter side of a situation. Most of all, she taught us how to live; she pointed us to God.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Eddie Killian of Gaston; sons and daughters-in-law, Harold “Al” Jeffcoat, Jr. and Karin Gleaton of Irmo, Craig Gleaton of West Columbia and Gregg and Pam Gleaton of Lexington; sisters, Mildred Corbett Sellers of Gaston and Louise Corbett Dorris of West Columbia; brother, R.E. Corbett, Jr. of Cayce; 14 grandchildren, Trey Gleaton, Courtenay Gleaton, Brooke Gleaton, Meredith Gleaton, Elliott Gleaton, Michael Gilstrap, Craig Gleaton, II, Kristin Gleaton, Karlie Morgan Gleaton, Heather Gleaton, Donald Gregg and his wife, Crystal Gleaton, Rob Killian, Hunter Killian and Kyle Killian; four great grandchildren, Taylor Gleaton, Alyssa Gilstrap, Dominic Gilstrap and Kelcie Gleaton. Mrs. Gleaton was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Corbett and two sisters, Lucille Corbett Durham and Margaret Corbett Chandler.

The family extends a special thank you to Portsbridge Hospice, especially the team of Bobby, Sherri, Jackie and Tom. Also thanks to caregiver, Frances Rudisail, for the thoughtful and tender way that you cared for our mother.

Loretta,I hope you will remember me. When we were very young we worked together at the store when the Gardners were the owners. I am very sorry to hear of your mothers death, but happy to know that she is in heaven today. So many years have passed since those years ago,but I remember our friendship and your sweet mother. If you care to, when you have the time, I would love to hear from you. Once again, you and your family have my sympathy and we as Gods children have the Hope of Eternal Life. Your friend,Brenda
