I was a Camp Counsellor at Summit Camp, PA., back in1982. I met Mayer Stiskin while I was there. He was an affable fellow - and I would like to say: rest in peace, Mayer, and thank you for creating this amazing camp and for making possible one of the most memorable summers of my life.

I worked for Mayer from 1973-77 at Summit camp and the new Summit school in Nyack NY that Mayer started. In the winter of 77 i could not afford to keep working at the school and Mayer okayed me for unemployment so I could search for a similar position working with kids with special needs in other parts of the country that were not as financially stressed as the north east. I used my skills I learned from the Summit program that helped me work with other kids. Thank you Mayer for helping me to become the person i am today.

The first summer I attended I learned how to swim and ride a bicycle. If not for the patience of Ben, the counselor in charge, this may not have been possible.

I attended Summit Camp for seven years growing up, and while I never personally got to know Mayer all that well, I have incredible respect for his legacy. Without his vision and compassion, thousands of young people-myself included-who think and learn differently than many of their peers would not have been afforded such safe spaces to be themselves, make meaningful connections, learn invaluable skills, and of course, have so much fun. Thank you, Mayer, for all of your kindness and warmth. You once told me a joke about us partnering up to create the law firm "Biskin & Stiskin" that, despite its cheesiness, still makes me smile today. Rest in peace, Mr. Stiskin. Sincerely, Mx. Biskin.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mayer back in 1980 for a Summit Camp presentation at Summit School and I ended up going there for 4 summers til 1983. I also went to Summit School starting in 1981 and graduated in the class of 1987. Mayer Stiskin was a great person for special needs kids when there were only so many people that understood them.
Condolences to Ninette and his family and all the others he helped out through the years.
Thank you Mayer and rest in peace.

I remember seeing Mayer in the Summit Camp Introduction Cassette. Then I met him in person at the camp on occasion. He was honestly a gentleman and a wonderful man. He created 3 places where individuals like myself could fit in, feel at home and slowly integrate us into society. Mayer, your legacy will live on. We shall all Reach for the Stars!

I am beyond saddened to hear about the passing of Mayer. I would not be where I am today without having a camp I could go to and be accepted for who I am. I have many cherished memories of Summit. None of that would've been possible without Mayer. May his work inspire new generations to be inclusive and welcoming to those with differences and may his memory be a blessing.

Mayer so positively affected thousands of people with special needs and their families. What more can any of us hope to do in life? He was a mentor to me and I certainly would not have the career I've had if not for him. Betsy and my (that sounds awkward!) condolences to Ninette, Ron and Lisa and your entire family.

Mayer Stiskin legacy was helping people with disabilities overcome loneliness diversity while learning independence and having fun. Thank you for keeping the Camp Spirit alive. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends who share our love to such an incredible inspirational friend and mentor.

I am at a loss of words! He was amazing at what he did with summit and for the campers and staff! I hope he is up there with TIM and talking about all that has been going on. The services he held at summit were amazing and truth be told, they were the first jewish service that i have ever attended consistantly. May he rest in peace and look down on all of the lives he made an impact on.

I will miss Mayer a lot. It was Summit camp I made friends I still have, and thru this circle of Summit friends, it would indirectly help me to meet my wife Melissa in 2000. As a result too of Mayer - I met perope from so many countries, mainly the UK, and got me really hooked on wanting British friends for so long. Mayer's Summit Camp programme touched so many lives over many decades. I still have fond recollections of Summit Camp and the people I got to know thru this experience! Bless Mayer in heaven.
