Maylan Anthony Newton, beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2025.

He was born on April 20, 1957, at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, to Corene Lutie Isbell and Warren Alf Newton. His father was assigned to a naval base in Hawaii not long after his birth and Maylan had his first birthday on an ocean liner. Following this assignment the family moved to Moorpark, California where he attended primary schools and graduated from Moorpark High School in 1975.

Maylan attended Arizona Automotive Institute, a trade school in Arizona where he pursued his passion for cars. His tenured career began as an auto technician, and as his dedication to the field grew, he went on to sell Snap-On Tools, wrote service at A&D Automotive, and then met Jim Hunt, founder of ESI. After being mentored by Jim, Maylan acquired the business in the mid-1990s and continued to build its legacy for decades. For the past 30 years, he was deeply involved in the automotive community through speaking engagements, client coaching and mentoring, and industry events, always working to preserve the integrity of the trade he loved. He was also instrumental in providing a supportive community for women in the automotive field through dedicated involvement with "Amazing Women in Automotive" (AWiA).

Maylan's love for motorsports seamlessly blended his personal and professional passions. A proud owner of multiple dragsters and funny cars, he also had a deep affection for his Harley Davidson. Maylan was immensely proud of his role as a father and grandfather, and he was an active and engaged presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He passed along his enthusiasm for speed, sharing his knowledge and joy for motorsports with them. Above all, Maylan found immense joy in connecting with others, offering guidance, and lending a hand. His warmth and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Maylan is survived by his children, Suni Newton Osborn and Chase Newton; his children-in-law, Preston Osborn and Kelly Cone; and his beloved grandsons, Indiana and Sawyer Osborn, his brother, Schalon Newton; and his former spouse, Lauren Newton.

Maylan will be deeply missed by all who knew him and a celebration of his life is being planned for the summer, with details to be shared with family and friends once available.

I met Maylan at the skycap podium in Burbank when he would fly out. The guys said this is Chase dad. (I worked with Chase.) Once you met Maylan you just naturally became good friends because of his kindness and wisdom. It never failed , just when I needed a lift that would be the day Maylan was flying. He was God sent always. He would check in and greet us all, even the cops enjoyed his conversations. Every time he flew he would bring a dozen donuts for us, dropping them off first then go park his car. He never flew without bringing them. Such a kind gesture. He shared the daily quote app with me so I could have, and brought me a copy of his book "The Art of Hiring". He was kind to everyone he encountered. He would share stories of his travels with us, and if anyone bad talk SWA, Maylan would disagree with them, because he always chose to see the bigger picture, the greater good. He had our back and we had his! We took good care of him. He shared stories of his family, who he loved very much, and loved getting to see his grandkids. He wanted the best for everyone and genuinely cared. He will be sorely missed at Curb in Burbank, at Southwest, and in our hearts. But he leaves us with all his love and wisdom and that is now priceless. God bless you Maylan. Your still flying, just as our guardian Angel now. Much Love and Prayers to his family

Met Maylan when he worked at A and D Automotive. Lost contact for many years. Ran into Maylan last year at the Wings Over Camarillo Airshow. I was a pleasure to meet up with Maylan. I never knew him very personally but he was a great guy. Condolences to his family and close friends. He will definitely be missed.

I met Maylan when I was a shop cleanup kid at Certified Auto in Simi. He was the Snap-On tool guy and he sold me my very first tool box. Since then I have always known him as a kind, knowledgeable person and he was always more than happy to help anyone, anytime. I always considered him as "One of the good guys". He will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Sir your majesty and so on and so forth. He game me my first job; organizing files in the garage. Would always drive side streets instead of the free when we were kids. I now realize with kids of my own: he was soaking every moment of Suni with her friends in the car. Memories I still look back on. Thank you for everything Maylan or Suni´s Dad or Sir Your Majesty

Suni and Chase, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember so much about your father and how he so loved you both and the pride he had for each of you. May the joyful memories bring you peace.

My Uncle Maylan was a big part of my growing up. We had a secret handshake no one else knew. He would take us Christmas shopping. Drive us around to see Christmas lights or go to the movies on Thanksgiving. He gave me an easy job helping stuff envelopes and such for his business so I can feel proud of myself earning my own money. I often think about him when singing the classic "Under the Boardwalk". My love goes to my family who is grieving right now. He will be missed.
