Megan Peterkin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 6, 2025.
Beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, friend, and sitter extraordinaire Megan Ellis Peterkin left us at the age of 38 on May 2, 2025, in Vancouver, Washington.

Born on November 6, 1986, in Vallejo, California, to Jim and Wendy (Ellis) Peterkin, Megan moved with her family to Springfield, Ohio, before they settled in Cincinnati. She graduated in 2005 from Mariemont High School, where she was active in volleyball, theater, band and drumline, Latin club, and academic team-a variety of extracurriculars that reflected such a multifaceted young woman.

Megan initially set her sights on a career in pharmacy. However, her academic journey took a meaningful turn when she discovered her true calling in the intersection of science and society. In 2013, she earned from Butler University her Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology, and Society-a field that perfectly matched her analytical mind and deep curiosity about the world.

Megan found her professional home at Managed Health Care Associates, Inc., where she began her career as an Account Analyst in the Net-Rx division after she had moved to the Portland, Oregon, area in 2015. While her unique love of Excel was well-known among family and friends, it was at MHA she uncovered a natural gift for data analysis-an aptitude that blossomed into a deep passion for product analytics. Rising to the role of Product Analyst, Megan quickly became recognized not only for her technical acumen and data storytelling skills, but also for her boundless support of her colleagues.

Megan's warmth also radiated brightly outside of work. She was deeply loved by those around her-for her generosity, her grace, her humor, and the way she made everyone feel seen and valued. She was a confidante, a safe harbor for many. She was born to be a protector, mentor, and role model, enthusiastically supporting her younger sister, her cousins, and numerous bonus siblings from found family over the years. Their achievements were her achievements; their setbacks her setbacks; their joy her joy.

Megan had a wide array of interests that reflected her vibrant personality. She adored dogs, frequently volunteering to pet sit for family and friends, and she held close the memory of Oreo and Sandy, the cherished pets from her childhood whom she never stopped missing. Her eyes would widen with enthusiasm when she was about to show you the latest video of her beloved nephew or when she talked about her newest romantasy find. An avid reader, often staying up until the early hours of the morning to finish a book, Megan had an insatiable love for stories, and was especially drawn to fandoms like Buffy, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Marvel, her deep knowledge of which she applied during regular trivia nights. She enjoyed bingeing British mystery shows, playing rec volleyball, crafting thoughtful gifts, experimenting in the kitchen with her latest Trader Joe's haul, and simply spending time with those she loved most.

Family meant everything to Megan. She loved researching her ancestry to learn about her family tree. She prioritized attending cousins' weddings and finding time for a quick meal or sleepover if she was traveling to a city where a relative lived. She was the link to her large family that spans countries and states, coasts and shorelines.

Megan had the biggest heart, the kind that made space for everyone around her, no matter what was going on in her own life. Her smile lit up rooms; her intelligence inspired those who knew her; and her compassion left an indelible mark on countless lives. Megan is lovingly remembered by her parents Wendy and Jim, younger sister Caitlin (Peterkin) and brother-in-law Calvin Carter, and nephew Sylas. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were brightened by her presence. She now joins her maternal grandparents, Jim and Jo (Canzonetti) Ellis, and paternal grandmother Marisa (Plimmer) Peterkin in peace.

Celebrations of life will be held in Oregon City, Oregon, on May 12 and in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 14. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Megan's memory to PBS, NPR, or your local library.

Having worked with Megan for 10 years, her presence is deeply missed.
Our near-daily chats were a highlight, filled with her endless wisdom and warmth. She taught me so much - Excel formulas and shortcuts, the mysterious Oxford comma, how to cut my own hair, and the art of a perfect nail wrap. Megan´s lessons and insight went beyond skills; she showed me how to keep stress at bay and embrace each day with appreciation and grace. I told her often that each conversation we shared taught me something new and invaluable.
Her caring, empathetic spirit and immense love for her family and friends shone brightly. She touched so many lives, and I´ll carry our conversations and laughter with me always.

While I didn't know Megan, I mourn her death. She lived directly above an Afghan immigrant friend of mine who commented on their friendly interaction when meeting in the doorway. He emotionally reflected upon her as a very nice person. God bless Megan's family and friends as you remember her.

I had the honor to work closely with Megan and share in her career journey since starting at Net-Rx and then moving into the product analyst role as part of our MHA Product team. Her contributions are widespread both to our users and to our teams. She loved a new challenge and was excited about her next new adventures and digging into new ideas. But all that said, she was never happier than when she was talking about her family and especially little Sylas. 2 of these photos are txts she sent me from her last couple of trips to Ohio and one was a group of us on a work trip in 2022. I don't know how to imagine me without her. May you rest in peace Megan my friend. I will forever be grateful for the 10 years we worked together. You made me a better person and I am so thankful for your light and brilliance.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Megan's passing. Although I never had the opportunity to meet her in person, I had the privilege of collaborating with her on many projects at MHA.
Megan was a remarkable team player whose uplifting presence and impactful contributions were felt on every virtual call. Her bright smile and positive energy will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, my friend.

In elementary school Megan was my best friend. We did so many things together! I remember so much laughter and playing with toys, board games, and just chatting.

I remember going over for family dinner and eating the best mashed potatoes that Wendy made.

I remember singing to songs in the car as we did Girl Scouts together.

Even as we grew older we still remained friends going to each other´s birthday parties and always chatting in the high school hallways.

The last memory I have of her is on the BB riverboat during our high school graduation celebration and she spoke of her hopes and dreams and we always had this unspoken connection that even though we had grown apart in our teens...we never stopped being friends.

She was one of the smartest, kindest and funniest people.

I have so many childhood pictures of us. I will make sure to find what I can and upload them and also give them to the family should they wish to have them.

To my best friend: this world will be so dim without the light you brought into it. You meant everything to me and I miss you terribly. Words cannot convey the love and admiration I have for you. You have changed my life forever.

I have no words that seem enough to convey to my dear friends Wendy, Jim and Caitlin how devastated I am by the loss of sweet Megan. My beliefs though-are that she´s now in a place where her soul can flourish and engage with other souls in ways I can only imagine. And boy will they have interesting conversations! We will never forget the light that she brought into a room, the warmth that she conveyed, the time that we had together. My heart is broken like never before, and I just really want to give you all a hug.
