Meimei Huber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 20, 2023.
Meimei Lynn Huber passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023 at the age of 77 in Rochester, New York. She is survived by her husband, John "Neil" Huber, her sons, Chris, Matt and Jeff Huber, and her brothers Richard and Bill McMichael.

Meimei was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 19, 1946 to her parents Jack and Dorothy McMichael. She moved to several locations in her youth including Long Island, Chico, California, eventually settling in Stockton, California during high school. She obtained her BA in History from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University in 1968. In the same year she met Neil Huber (College of Law, 1968) and they married on August 18, 1968 in Syracuse. They remained married for over 55 years.

Meimei got her Masters in Social Work from Washington University in 1975 and practiced for a few years before focusing on raising her sons in St. Louis, Missouri. In the early 1990s, Meimei continued to build her career rooted in her passion for caring for others. She obtained her degree in Nursing from the Barnes Hospital School of Nursing (Summa Cum Laude) and became a registered nurse. Her skills of empathy and patience led her to recognize a talent for elder care, and she worked for several years in home health care. In 2009 she retired to Santa Rosa, California in part to take care of her own mother in her 90s. In 2021, she and Neil settled in Webster, New York to be closer to family in the Eastern United States.

Meimei was one of a kind: uniquely sincere with a beautiful smile and spirit toward others. She loved life, travel, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Donations in her name can be made to The Parkinson's Foundation at this link: https://www.parkinson.org/.

Dear Meimei, when you both came to Syracuse to meet us, after Matt proposed to our daughter Angela, we took you out to dinner. Of all the restaurants in Syracuse, as we pulled in, you and Neil said at same time T.C., we asked about that and you told us this was the place you had your first date. We knew then it was kismet. So many Syracuse connections for you both, to end up here was meant to be. Rob and I knew we were going to be friends. We love you both and are so blessed to have you in our hearts and part of our family memories. And our granddaughter Loretta, a very special child whom you loved dearly. God Bless you Meimei. She exuded love, warmth, and welcome each time I entered her home. She was the epitome of kindness and hospitality. While I only observed her as a loving mother and spouse, I can only imagine what a gift she was to her patients.

Meimei was a wonderful person. She was so kind and caring. We were fortunate to know her for many years. Sharing some pictures from our wedding in 1998.

Meimei were the closest-in-age McMichael cousins, the youngest until Madeline came along. So we met early in our lives, but I'm not sure exactly when. Her family lived in California, which was very far away during those years, so it must have been one of the times when they came East for a visit. We attended each other's weddings, I do know. We really enjoyed the several trips we took together through the years with other members of the McMichael clan. We will all greatly miss her warmth and kindness.

Meimei and her husband Neil, were part of the Eastside Parkinson's Foundation group in Webster. They said they enjoyed meeting with a group of people who had PD and shared information about coping with the disease. She always had a smile on her face. We will miss her at the meetings. Peace to you all, Jo Zimmerman

Mrs. Huber was my neighbor in Oak Tree Farms Subdivision during the 1970´s. Her son was friends with my brother and I remember her being well known on the cul-de-sac for her kindness. My thoughts are with Chris and his family during this difficult time.
