Melanie Renee Barrett

Melanie Renee Carruth was born September 2, 1977, in Amarillo, Texas. She departed this life June 19, 2022, in Ft. Worth, Texas at 44 years of age. She was the daughter of Dr. David and Leona Carruth of Amarillo, Texas. Melanie received her early education in Amarillo and graduated from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas. Melanie received a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a minor in History. She taught at the Shannon Learning Center and Richland High School for over ten years in the Birdville School District. She taught AP courses in geography, and was an "assistant Richland High School Coach." Melanie was recognized as teacher of the year twice because she was beloved by her students.

Melanie married Kerry Jim Barrett, on July 4, 2018, in Saginaw, Texas. She is survived by her husband, her son Caden Carr of the home and by her parents David and Leona Carruth, her sister Stefanie Carruth of Amarillo, and her father and mother-in-law Jimmie and Helen Barrett of Ft. Worth.

Melanie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Glenn and Lela Carruth and Tom and Edna Binkley.

Melanie was born to be a teacher. She loved her students and her students loved her. Melanie fought Stage IV colon cancer for three years. She fought it fiercely, courageously, with a positive attitude and grace. Leading her prayer warriors, was her husband, Kerry, and her son, Caden. As well as their fellow teachers and Richland High School family and students, past and present; all her family and friends, and her medical staff; and numerous churches.

Melanie was known as "Mama Barrett" to her students and Coach Barrett's football players. Melanie loved BIG! Melanie lived by being thoughtful, being kind, and the saying "Love you more".
