Vonda, words cannot express how I feel right now. I just found out about Gene and Melinda today which is May 2. My heart is so sad and can not believe this has happened. All of the good times we had working together and most of our conversation was about our children. I treasure the times I was able to spend with Melinda during her Jr high years. Visits to your house, youth activities and our house! She was always the same beautiful, loving and always had a kind word and a smile. She will live in our memories forever!!! You are in my thoughts and prayers! Hopefully I will make a visit to Cumberland County soon!! Again I am so sorry I did not find out until day!

Vonda, so so so so to hear about Melinda's death. I sit here and remember all the conversations we had over the years. She was such a beautiful young lady. May God keep an extra arm of protection on you and comfort you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Always remember that God is your strength.

I know this is a late message but it has taken me this long to process that such a beautiful, loving and free spirit who didn't have a mean bone in her body, is actually gone from this world. My heart hurts so badly for Sister Vonda that it is almost crippling. Melinda had such a way with her that you immediately felt as ease and could join in on her quirky sense of humor, which she had in abundance. She was a joy to be around and the world is a whole lot dimmer without her light and laughter filling it up. My hope and her families is in knowing that she loved God and family, as she was always debating my husband over the scripture. She was always full of questions and curiosity and what God intended for her life. Sister Vonda one day you will join your loving husband and darling daughter in the glory of Gods kingdom and will run those streets of gold with your family. We love you more than you will ever know and your precious daughter will be missed beyond measure.

I remember Melinda from high school. She was always kind, friendly and full of life. The video tribute was beautiful. So sorry for your loss.

I am deeply sorry about your daughter Melinda, the only comfort I can impart to you is that Melinda is walking the streets of gold talking with Jesus. It's comforting to me knowing the same for my wife Barbara, it's wonderful to know that people of faith have the opportunity to speak to our Lord and Savior.
May the Lord lay his hand on your heavy heart and remove some of your grief.

This is a sad loss for so many people. Melinda had such a good heart and always lit up any room she entered.

My heart broke this past Sunday and I'm not sure it is ever going to truly heal. Melinda and I met when both of us started teaching at Lumberton High School and we became fast friends. During our shared 4th period planning, I would sit in her classroom as we attempted to actually accomplish paper grading and lesson planning. Over the course of fifteen years, she remained one of my best friends. Even after she moved to Charlotte, we stayed close and, though we didn't see each other more than a couple times a year, every time we got together it was as though no time had passed. She housed and fed me when I came to Charlotte to attend Grad school on weekends and helped me find housing when I moved to Charlotte (and bought me groceries so I wouldn't be hungry when I moved in). She never failed to be my cheerleader, my supporter, my protector, and my self-esteem booster. She was one of the kindest and most giving people I've ever known and her generosity of spirit and energy made an impression on everyone she met. Melinda may have left this world, but she will never leave my heart and my memories.
