AGE: 64 • Toms River

Melinda Velez, 64 of Holiday City @ Berkeley, Toms River died at home on July 9, 2011. Born and lived all her life in Brooklyn, she had moved to Toms River in 2003. Mrs. Velez had been employed for 23 years with the New York City Police Department as a Senior Police Administrator's Aide. She retired in 2002. Melinda was a very active person and was involved with many social and civic clubs in her retirement community.

She is predeceased by her husband John in 2002. Surviving are her devoted sons and daughters'-in-law; James Micozzi and his wife Suzette, and Glen Micozzi and his wife Susan; two siblings, Richard Hendriks and Aleta Kelly. Also surviving are four loving grandchildren, Anthony, Angela, Daniel and Jillian.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, July 12th, from 2-4 and 7-9pm, then again on Wednesday at 9am until services begin at 10am, in the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Burial will follow to Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

I express my deepest condolences to the family and closest of her friends. Melinda was a grand lady and always there to lend an ear and a helping hand. Melinda,R.I.P as you sit and watch over those you love.
