In Loving Memory of Melissa Ann Vogl
November 16, 1960 - November 17, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Melissa Ann Vogl, the most amazing woman, mother, and grandmother this world has known. Melissa departed this life on November 17, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas, one day after her 64th birthday, surrounded by the family she so dearly cherished.
Born on November 16, 1960, in Worcester, Massachusetts, Melissa was a beacon of compassion, faith, creativity, and quiet strength. Her heart was one of pure gold. She was generous, selfless, and always open to others. She lived her life in accordance with her deep Catholic faith, embodying kindness, humility, and unconditional love in all that she did.
Melissa was a woman of many talents and passions. An accomplished artist in her own right, she found joy in needlework, especially cross-stitch, and loved repurposing, crafting junk journals, and exploring countless arts and crafts. Her hands were rarely still, and everything she created was infused with her spirit. She cultivated a self-sufficient lifestyle including gardening, canning, dehydrating, and becoming a remarkable cook and baker who nourished both body and soul. She was a lifelong learner, with a love for reading that spanned fiction, biographies, history, and politics.
Melissa also had a deep love for travel and discovery. She found joy in visiting new places, learning about history and culture, and finding meaning in the hidden corners of the world. She especially loved going off the beaten path, often alongside her beloved husband Mike. Together, they explored the beauty of life through shared adventures, turning even the simplest road trip into a cherished memory. Their shared love of history and curiosity about the world brought them closer together and enriched their lives.
But above all, Melissa's greatest joy came from her family. Her love was fierce and unwavering. Holidays spent together, weekend sleepovers at grandma's house filled with crafts, movies, and laughter were the memories she most treasured. She was her grandchildren's biggest fan, cheering them on at every game, recital, concert, and milestone with a smile on her face and pride in her heart.
Melissa dedicated her life to service. She gave generously of her time and talents, both in and outside the home. She was a devoted "baseball mom," faithfully keeping score and supporting every inning. Her commitment to the Girl Scouts spanned over 15 years, where she led with purpose and passion, shaping hundreds of young girls into courageous, compassionate, confident leaders. Her influence echoes in every life she touched.
Her faith guided her every step, and for over two decades, she served the Catholic Church as a catechist, teaching countless children about God's love, the power of confirmation, and the importance of fellowship and community.
Melissa's strength was nothing short of miraculous. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, she fought with silent resilience, never letting her illness define her. Her journey was one of courage, dignity, and unwavering perseverance. Her family stood in awe of her grace, her unwavering hope, and her ability to radiate love even in the darkest of times.
Though her passing leaves an ache in our hearts, we take comfort in knowing she is now free of pain and reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband of 28 years, Michael Albert Vogl Sr., who preceded her in death in 2009. She is also reunited with her parents, George F. Bond and Jo Ann F. Perry, and many other loved ones who have gone before her. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Resurrection Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.
Melissa is survived by her loving children: Michael Albert Vogl Jr., Rebecca (Becky) MaryAnn Vogl-Johnson, and Sarah Elizabeth Vogl-Banning. She will live on in the hearts of her cherished grandchildren: McKenna Vogl, Kayleigh Vogl, Elizabeth Vogl, Eleana Vogl, and Fauna Johnson.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Melissa's life will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 615 N Main St, Garden Plain, KS 67050, on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Light refreshments will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Melissa's name to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church:
