Melva BLAKE Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Dec. 3, 2014.
BLAKE, Melva Joyce
January 19, 1943 - November 28, 2014
It is with great sadness and much love that our family announces the sudden passing of a dear wife, mother and grandmother, on November 28, 2014 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Remembered and missed by her husband of 52 years, Duncan; her children Kathleen Blake (Sean), Joyce (Doug) Ranson; James (Mia) and Ken (Tina); and twelve very special grandchildren Kole, Katrine, Justin, Samantha, Dylan, Erica, Thomas, Samson, Lauren, Reid, Samra, and Madison; sister Janice (Gary) Johnston. She will also be missed by Heather Blake as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents James and Reta Turner of Gilbert Plains and Grandview, Manitoba.
Melva was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba. During her childhood she lived in a number of locations throughout the western provinces as her father was a highway construction foreman. As a young adult she moved to Edmonton to pursue an education. Her proudest moments were her graduation from the Nurse's Aide program in 1961, her marriage to Duncan in 1962 and the birth of her children and grandchildren. She placed significant value on family and delighted in all family events including some wonderful family holidays. She cherished a large collection of family photos, which she insisted be updated every year. She had a great interest in genealogy and connected with many people over the years. Besides her love of puzzles and Scrabble, Melva could usually be found visiting over a cup of coffee or chatting on the phone with friends and family.
A celebration of Melva's life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on December 5 at Howard & McBride Westlawn Chapel, 16310 Stony Plain Rd NW, Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Diabetes Society.

We wish the Blake & extended families a beautiful and reverent service to reflect on your mother/grandmother.
We wish in time the holes of sadness in your hearts are refilled with memories of all the beauty, joy, traditions and fun times your mother/grandmother brought into this life and shared with you all.

We wish you peace in your hearts.

Love and hugs

Deepest sympathy to the Blake families on your loss of Melva. Melva and I were very best friends back in grade 9 when her family lived in Fairview. I have many fond memories of a very special friend. Lillie Anne Cornwell

I would like to send my condolences to Duncan and to all the family on the passing of Melva. She was a very friendly lady and would always say Hi and ask how I was, whether it be in Dollarama or just in passing. She will be dearly missed.
