Hello! I am just now finding out about Mel's passing. He was my roommate in Martins Landing for a while. He was also a good friend. I moved up to the NW Georgia area to have easier access to my parents. I'm now living in Chattanooga. Please accept my deepest condolences. I have fond memories of his friendship and his being my roommate.

Mel has been on my mind, and upon researching, I am met with such sadness.
I knew Mel in St Louis years back. When I moved to Florida, and my life seemed to be upended, Mel was the one that drove from Atlanta to Saint Petersburg to spend some time with me. He stayed.. We roomed together until I got on my feet.
Mel was always offered heartfelt kindness and seemed to put everyone else before himself.
We were disconnected for a while now, but he will always be a part of my life.
Rest in peace and Godspeed.

I am remembering a time when Mel (Lil) and I where kids. I am his uncle but only a couple years older. Mel and I where with our uncle (Bob Russell) fishing in his pond in Fredericktown, MO. Our uncle Bob was a little bit of a prankster and told Mel to stay still there was a fly on his face. Mel waited very anxiously to see what was going to happen next. Our uncle Bob reached over very quickly and grabbed at Mel's nose and told us he had caught the fly. When we asked to see the fly, uncle Bob seemed very concerned and told us he had mistakenly snatched Mel's nose right off of his face. Uncle Bob proceeded to show us his closed fist with the tip of his thumb sticking through his fingers. We were dumb founded and uncle Bob just laughed. By this time Mel was squinting to look at his nose and reaching up to touch it and I was still confused. We both got the prank and started laughing.
