Grandpa, I will miss walking next door to help decorate your house for every holiday - especially Halloween, our favorite and who could deny what a legend you are in your pumpkin jacket? I will miss rodeos in Idaho and stories about the Desert Rose and the Sun Valley Symphony and just sitting around the house laughing...and creamed corn and peanut brittle and your smiling face in the front row at all of my graduations and performances from kindergarten right up to my short film just a few weeks ago ....as Fraulein Maria says in the movie you watched with me so many times...these are a few of my favorite things! xoxo

I have been very blessed to have worked for Mel for 26 plus years, some of those years remotely after his retirement. I have so many fond memories from those years! Mel was not only my boss but a dear friend!

Mel was always a kind, caring and gentle man. Even though he was a prominent figure in Las Vegas, he always remained humble.

Mel was an amazing man and lived and amazing life! And through it all, family always came first!

Life will not be the same without Mel! He will be dearly missed by many but he will NEVER be forgotten!

My thoughts and prayers go out to his adoring wife, Kathleen, his three children, Mel III, Stephanie and Michael, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren during this difficult time!

We bought Mel's first home in PV.

Mel met the gorgeous Doll Kathleen, my dearest friend.

A new Close home was built
directly north of us.
Instant friendship was formed.
Dinners, lunches and happy times.
We sold our PV home and moved to the private residences above the reservoir.
Many visits occurred.
One year we drove Mel and Kathleen to the corn festival in Enterprise UT. Fun times.

The Close home in Vegas invited us to many gatherings.
We met Michael Close, another great man.
He moved next door to his Dad to assist him and Kathleen.

Honestly Mel was a gentile kind soul. Smart and humble.

We send our sincere condolences to Kathleen and the Close siblings, Heather Seen included.

We bought Mel's 1st PV home.
His new home was built facing our back porch.
Fast forward......
I meet the gorgeous red head Kathleen!
A wonderful friendship developed.
Lunches and dinners for us and other neighbors.
Later we purchased a home above the reservoir.
Mel and Kathleen were frequent guests.
During illnesses they drove over with food.
Took us out later for a Korean lunch.
Their respect and kindness was endless.
We enjoyed our dinners at their beautiful LV home.
We had lots of fun at the corn festival in Enterprise UT.
Mel was a gentile soul.
A true scholar and a friend.
RIP dear man.

To say my heart was broken when I learned of Uncle Mel´s passing is an understatement. He was a giant of a man who loved deep and was one of my absolute favorites!! When I married his nephew, Stephen, Uncle Mel immediately made me feel welcome and loved. He always treated me, as well as my own family, like we had always been part of the family. He had the kindest disposition. A gentle giant of a man. He had a great laugh. He taught my children to love the cabin in Pine Valley and on a few occasions met us there with Veyo Pies that he loved and got us hooked on. He would send me pictures of the wild turkeys and deer in the yard and I would do the same. Uncle Mel always celebrated our children´s accomplishments with us and loved telling me of his grandchildren´s achievements. He had great stories of my father in law Jack as well as their father that I loved to listen to. I loved our emails back and forth about the cabin and family updates. Our beloved Uncle Mel will be missed. May he rest in peace knowing how much my husband, children and I truly loved him.

I was Mel’s secretary for several months. He was such a wonderful person — down to earth and a generous, respectful and kind gentleman. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

For the last 20 years, I have always said that I gold medaled in the stepfather Olympics. Mel was a kind, generous, loving stepdad to me, always including me and treating me as one of his children. And I will be grateful forever for how much he loved my mom. He is already greatly missed.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Kathleen & all of the dear Close family. We became acquainted w/ "Uncle Mel" when our Cari married Stephen Close.
He helped our family make good decisions w/ his kind & reassuring voice! I just loved how respectful he was of our feelings & thoughts! I loved to be around him as he was always open armed & so happy to be w/ family! I always felt loved & respected by him! What a great man!
He will be so greatly missed!

Grandpa will be greatly missed.

Above all else, Mel was a devoted family man. He took the entire family on an annual family vacation because he wanted everyone to stay close. We miss you already Mel ❤

From my grandfather one of the greatest gifts was given to me, a donation was made in my name. Even at a young age it taught me to be a giving person and to help those less fortunate. A true life lesson was passed on to me. He has all my love and admiration.
