My condolences to the family at this very difficult time. May your cherished memories be a comfort to you and may the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus at John 6:40 strengthen you and bring you hope for the future.

Mel and I entered Dalhousie Medical School in the same year and met on our first day. I cannot recall how it was that we met but somehow Mel declared us a team based on our respective outsider status. It was some kind of ethnic, gender, socioeconomic formula that I cannot remember. We made our way through medical school never being number 1 or 2 but in the immediately following numbers. We respected each other intellectually and as human beings. I haven't had contact with Mel since we left medical school but I have been aware of his career in Hematology (where I spent some time) and held him in my heart as I progressed through my life and adopted Judaism nearly forty years ago. May his memory be for a blessing!
