Floyd W. Turner, Sr.
Floyd William Turner, Sr. age 80, of Athens, known to friends & family as "Peanuts", passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 8:34 PM in the Mason City Area Nursing Home with family at his side.
He is survived by his wife Gladys Turner; his children Floyd (Lauren) Turner, Jr., Linda Lou (Dale) Ablen, Lisa Ann (Mike) Pusch, all of Cantrall, Tracy Sue (David) Smith of Roodhouse, and James Alan (Kristy) Turner of Lisle.
Floyd has 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Floyd was born April 1, 1930 in Springfield, the son of Harold Finnis and Lela Harbaur Turner. He married Gladys Louise Carman on September 18, 1950, at the Church of Brethern in Springfield, IL.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Harold "Ike" and Virgil and two sisters, Eilleen Droege and Alberta Thomas.
Floyd was a member of the Athens VFW #5304. He served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War.
He worked as a construction worker for Sankey's, worked for the Department of Transportation, Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer, and was a Home Builder.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.
Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating.
Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.
Memorials can be made to the "Floyd Turner Memorial Fund" for the care of Gladys Turner.
