Melvina (Mel) Crain Carter, age 64 of Painesville, died unexpectedly but peacefully on January 12, 2021. Mel was born on September 19, 1956 in Cleveland. She was an extremely successful and driven person and graduated Summa Cum Lauda from Baldwin Wallace University with a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Communications. Additionally, Mel earned her Master’s in Business Administration from Lake Erie College. Throughout her life she held a variety of jobs ranging from Figgie International, General Electric and Progressive Insurance. Mel was a member of Lake Erie Church of God where she created many memories and loved to act in the many plays which showcased her vibrant personality. She enjoyed attending swimming classes at the Painesville YMCA, where she also worked part time. She also loved participating in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Most importantly one of the great joys of her life was being a loving mother and friend to her daughter Jamila and wife to her husband of 35 years William. Mel, with her radiant joy and loving heart, will be missed by everyone who was blessed with the opportunity to know her. She is survived by her husband, William Jerome Carter; daughter, Jamila Malaika Carter; father, Richard (Bernice) Irvin Crain, Sr.; brothers, Everett Crain and Richard “Irvin” Crain, Jr.; and sister, Lisa Ann Crain, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her mother, Julia Irene Johnson Crain. Services will be held at Lake Erie Church of God on Tuesday January 19, 2021. Calling hours will be from 5pm - 6pm. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 6pm. Online condolences at www.johnsonfuneralservices.net
