Melvyn Spiegel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 25, 2025.
Melvyn Daniel Spiegel, born on July 24, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away on January 27, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona.

Mel enjoyed a wonderful marriage for many years to Barbara Spiegel, until her passing in 2016. His career was in retail shoes (along with cousin Seymour Spiegel and brother-in-law Jerry Fechter) and later in men's clothing. Many Brooklynites fondly remember their visits to Spiegel's Shoes locations in Sheepshead Bay, in Bay Ridge and on Nostrand Avenue.

In retirement, Mel and Barbara moved to south Florida where they enjoyed many happy years filled with pleasurable activities with many dear friends.

Mel served in the Army in post-war Europe and often would recall his enlisted days.

He and Barbara were the dedicated and loving parents to two sons, Robert Spiegel and Peter Spiegel. Mel was the son of Samuel and Frieda Spiegel and the brother of Myra Fechter, who preceded him in death.

Mel had a deep appreciation for cars and home aquariums and was an avid tennis player and fan. He also loved his dogs, Beau and Sammy. Along with Barbara and friends and family, Mel enjoyed many travel adventures and vacations. Most of all, Mel always showed kindness and a positive spirit that endeared him to so many. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
