We are so very sorry for your loss- our family offers our sincerest condolences to Joan and family. We had the pleasure of seeing Merle and Joan at my moms 85th birthday party and as always he had his beautiful smile. Thank you for being a part of our life- we will sadly miss you.

He was such a loving and wonderful man, very kind and welcoming treating us like one of the family. He will always have a special place in our hearts and will be deeply missed.

WE HAD A LOT OF GOOD TIMES WITH MERLE AND JOAN WHEN WE LIVED IN MUNDELEIN.NEW YEARS EVES,THOSE DANCES IN WISCONSIN AND FAMILY GET TOGETHERS. MERLE WAS A PERSON WHO ALWAYS FOUND TIME TO HELP YOU WITHOUT BEING ASKED. MOVING TO ARIZONA SEPARATED US BUT WE ALWAYS KEPT IN TOUCH.HE SURELY WILL BE MISSED BY ALL OF OUR FAMILY.

I called him Dad almost from the first time I met him. He was always ready with a smile, he always asked how I was, not in an off-handed way like many but he watched & listened for a response as if he really cared! That was Dad! My Mother always spoke of Merle with true admiration & gratitude. She knew if I had a Father-Daughter event, Merle would make sure I felt included. Thanks for EVERYTHING Dad, I loved you! Joan, Linda, Michael, David & Jimmy words cannot convey the sorrow I share with you. Thanks for sharing him with me.

You are the bright light Mr. Gratz!

My prayers are with y'all in this difficult time. Merle was such a big part of my teen yrs. Hes gentle way of talking to manicuring the yard just right. Always welcomed by his smile. He will be missed by many never forgotten.

Merle, You were a great man! My trip home this summer was perfect because of you and Joan! Thank you for being apart of our lives (since birth).. And thank you for the yellow bird house!

When I worked at Wiechs I loved seeing Merle walk in the door ready to play horseshoes. He was a gentleman, plus always cheerful, kindest man and my condolences go out to the family. He will be missed terribly!
