Merle George Schmaus

AGE 81 of South Saint Paul, MN passed away at home on May 27, 2023. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon; daughters Kim (Don) Haagensen, Melissa (Chris) Hagood, and Alicia; son, Dustin (Amy); grandsons, Derrick, Zachary, Mikael and Seth; granddaughters, Tiffani (Brandon) Mullins, Dani (Max) Oelerking, and Katelyn; great grandchildren, Ryan, Marley and Maija Mullins; sisters, Audrey Bucklin and Debbie (Rick) Birdsall. Merle was born and raised in Sisseton, South Dakota to Benjamin and Emily Schmaus. He was one of seven children. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Korea from 1964-1966. Merle worked for the US Post Office as a mail carrier in Saint Paul where he retired after 30 years of service. Merle and Sharon spent many years camping with lifelong friends at their lake place in Frederic, Wisconsin and loved to spend their winters in Raymondville, Texas.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10th, 2023 at 11am at Luther Memorial Church in South Saint Paul. There will be a visitation one hour before the service with a luncheon to follow.
