Merry Lutz, 86, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, in Gilbert, Arizona. Born on December 4, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Merry lived a vibrant and fearless life marked by creativity, reinvention, and an unwavering zest for new experiences.
Merry began her professional journey with a successful career in real estate at ERA. Her natural charisma and determination helped her thrive in the industry until market shifts prompted a new chapter. Encouraged by her husband John Lutz, who worked for the Department of Corrections, Merry embraced change and joined the DOC. There she rose through the ranks with characteristic drive and resilience before retiring with pride from her second career.
Merry's life was defined not only by her professional accomplishments but also by her colorful personality and boundless energy. She had a flair for fashion and was known for her ever-changing hairstyles-sometimes brunette, sometimes redhead, occasionally even pretty in pink-a trait that delighted her daughter Connie. Her love of clothes and shoes was legendary; no single closet could contain her collection.
Creativity flowed through every aspect of Merry's life. She sewed with skill, crocheted intricate patterns, crafted macramé plant holders and clackers, and was an exceptional cook who brought joy to those around her through food and handmade gifts. Her adventurous spirit extended beyond crafts-she once owned a six-foot boa constrictor and would bring reptiles to school show-and-tell events for Connie's class without hesitation.
Merry had a generous heart and was always looking for ways to help others. Her giving nature touched many lives over the years. She approached each day with curiosity and courage, never afraid to try something new or step outside the ordinary.
She is survived by her devoted husband John Lutz; daughter Connie Thompson and son-in-law Mark Thompson; grandsons Thomas and Matt; six great-grandchildren; as well as two granddaughters Sarah and Katie from her late son Tommy Rupp, along with three great-grandchildren.
Merry was preceded in death by her beloved son Tommy Rupp-the apple of her eye-as well as her parents Milo Dean Andrus and Lena Hancock Andrus; sisters Barbara Howell and Linda Keck; and brother Roger Andrus.
Merry's legacy is one of boldness, generosity, creativity, and love. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and inspiration to all who hear her story. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Val Vista Lakes West Wing 1600 E. Lakeside Drive
