My sister Mary & I were holding Dad's hand when he passed away Sunday afternoon. Dad had been fighting bone cancer for almost a year and was still going strong till a few weeks ago. At that time his house caught fire and Ruth & him were able to escape. The house was not totally destroyed, but it was to be 6 weeks or so till they could move back in. They wanted to stay close to their home and so were living in motels when Dad took a turn for the worse and was taken to the hospital. I think he would have been around awhile longer if not for the fire. Just days before the fire my grandaughter Taylour and I were visiting him and he was out getting firewood with me. He would rest a bit and then load a few pieces of wood. Most of my memories of my Dad is of him laughing and his special smile. I was so blessed to have him as a father as were my children to have him for a Grandpa. Dad taught me much - most through his example of a loving, trustful, generous and forgiving parent. Also his unfailing and absolute belief in God - I will miss him till I am with him again.

Just a relative that had your information forwarded through the internet! I know from the Mootz Family History Book written by Jane Miller that we are indeed related. He sounds like so many of the Mootz Men--went to war, had a great sense of humor, and loved family--all generations! I want you to know that you have my deepest sympathy. Jean Horan
