Mervin SMITH Obituary
Suddenly in hospital, Shawville, Quebec on Monday, March 12, 2012 at the age of 77 years. Son of the late George Smith and Etta Stewart. Beloved husband of Phyllis Sparling. Loving father of Shawn. Dear grandfather of Jordan Smith. Dear brother of Lloyd (late Jessie), Ronald (Mary) and Arvella (Dick Steele). Brother-in-law of Jean (Donald Horner) and the late Sherwood (Marilyn). Predeceased by brothers Roy (Helen Frost) and Keith (Jane) and sisters Thelma (late Dave Frost), Doreen (Jack Clarke), Annie Mae (late Clarence Moorehead), and Hattie (Joey Brown). Survived and missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may call at W. J. Hayes & Sons Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 11:30 until service time. Funeral at 2 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment Maple Grove Cemetery.

My uncle Mervin was a giant of a man, with a big heart and a kind, gentle spirit.
He was a loving and devoted husband to Phyllis, proud father to Shawn, and grandfather to Jordan.
Mervin had a code of sensible life, and successful business ethics that he lived by his entire life, which to his credit and legacy I have tried to emulate, and which I will continue to practice - Mervin worked hard and always treated folks he dealt with fairly and honestly.
Mervin passionately loved his family, the Pontiac, Quebec and Canada unconditionally. A truly great Canadian has passed.
His generous spirit will live on forever in the fields, forests and hills of Calumet Island - and on "The Wee Ponderosa" - the home and farm he and Phyllis built together and raised Shawn, a place he called paradise.
Paulette and I will dearly miss him.
