Mia Love was a U.S. Congresswoman who died March 23, 2025, of brain cancer at her home in Saratoga Springs, Utah at the age of 49.
The daughter of Haitian immigrants, Love made history when she was elected to the House of Representatives, the first Black woman elected to Congress as a Republican. She ascended to the position in 2015 after having served four years as mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah. She lost her seat in 2018 to Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams.
Former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who also served Utah, said on X.com, "Her energy, enthusiasm and wit made her a stand-out member of Congress. Her faith and fortitude made her a model for me and for countless others. We will dearly miss you, Mia."

Mia Love was befitting of her name. She put love into everything in her life, God, family and country. Not reticent to speak out boldly on her convictions locally or nationally, Mia has left a permanent legacy on a global scale. Mia was a pioneer of progress sharing the same stage as Martha Hughes Cannon and many other great iconic women. I am proud to have known Mia and worked diligently on her campaigns. I am glad she is past her pain and at peace in the arms of her Savior and Heavenly Parents.

I am so sad to hear this! She reached out to me many years ago on Facebook and we became good friends, sharing ideas regarding politics and laws. I enjoyed her immensely. She was loving and kind. This is truly a great loss. Prayers of comfort & strength for her family during this difficult time. God bless them all.

Our Son Ryan Hill was a missionary in the New York New York North Mission and was a companion to Elder Love. They had the opportunity to teach Mia the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ and she chose to be baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We had the opportunity of meeting Mia when she came out to Utah to meet Ryan's family and spent some time with us. She was a genuine daughter of God who was definitely driven and wanted to succeed in life to listen, love, and lift all the many people who were privileged to know her and what she believed in. There was certainly a sweet reunion that took place when Mia passed from this mortal life between our son Ryan Hill who had passed away in 2010. We want her family to know how sorry we are for her passing and leaving her loved ones behind. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Love from, Jeff and Sherrie Hill and family.

Truly one of my most favorite political figures. She was a great conservative leader. Wasn't in office very long, but I've never forgotten her. I'm deeply saddened that she has passed. God bless her and her remarkable family!

To Jason and the three children, I feel your loss. GBM took my wife from our children and me, and I know you will see dark days. There is no rhyme nor reason, just the moments we had together, which were beautiful. I wish you strength and support on your journey.

Mia was a gift to Utah. She spoke to a small group of us in my company - invited because we contributed to our firm´s PAC. I was deeply touched by her genuineness, honesty and warmth of heart. When she left the room, our corporate PAC team were in awe of her. Thank you Mia for choosing to serve and make a difference. Bless your family with love.

I did not know Mia personally. I wish I could have met her, it would have been an honor. I am just a voter who admired her for standing up for like minded people like me. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family. Please know that thousands of Americans loved and respected her, just as I do.
