So sorry to hear of micks passing. I was a young apprentice working in a garage in Widnes with Mick 1968. He took me under his wing and helped me so much. He was a kind guy then at such an early age. I lost contact with him when I left to work in jersey but always followed his great career with interest. So long old friend. Ged nolan

So very sad and shocked to hear of my old childhood friend, school chum, neighbour and Widnes and Great Britain rugby legend Mick Adams' recent death. We had known each other from the age of 3 years when I and my family moved from Widnes Town Centre in 1954 to Montgomery Road in Ditton a few miles away. I was a few months older than Mick and like me he had two brothers a sister. We were all close in age and spent many happy hours playing on the field and hills ('Ditton Alps')behind our row of houses. We attended St Michaels Junior School together and later Saints John Fisher & Thomas More Secondary Modern School where Mick excelled at every school sports activity, not least rugby league football where he represented both schools with distinction.
I recall in 1969 in Montgomery Road where we lived a few doors apart and Mick asked if I'd be interested in joining him in rugby trials for Widnes RLFC? I hesitated for a few seconds but declined his kind offer for whatever reason but I knew that he would do well in his quest to become a Widnes rugby player. It was his destiny and he made the absolutely right decision as history has shown...The attached poor quality yet precious monochrome photo was taken I believe by Mick's maternal uncle in 1963 behind our row of houses in Montgomery Road - Mick's younger brother Stephen left, me receiving the ball to pass to Mick. God bless his wife and children and extended family at this difficult time...

I grew up not only watching Mick on the terraces, but being awe struck when Mick brought all 5 trophies from the 1977 season to his mums house in Montgomery road and then brought them over into my grans garden to let us hold them and pose for photos with himself. Even at 6 years old, I saw him as a humble legend. Godspeed Mick and my condolences to all his family. From a Chemic in Auckland.

Love thoughts and prayers are with Chris and family. Take pride in what a true gentleman he was. Mick looked after Paul when he was mascot for he always kept in touch with Paul when he was then working at widnes and when he was over here he always called down at the club or even our house to catch up . He was a legend on and off the field and we are proud and privileged to have known him .

Dear Christine and family
I was deeply saddened to learn of Mick's passing. My thoughts are with you all at this most difficult of times.

I have many, many treasured memories of time spent with Mick and yourselves. You were all very generous to me and my family. My sons still talk about their time at Tamworth school with Mathew and Amy.

I was fortunate to be able to witness at first hand Mick's stellar playing career- he was truly a 'Great' of his generation. However, it was his outstanding kindness to me on the '79 Lions tour which I value highest of my memories of him. Along with Eric Hughes, they put up with me sharing their room for three months, after which Mick invited me back up to Tamworth to stay with your family whilst you enjoyed your honeymoon. Those times really defined my young life and will never be forgotten.

If there is anything at all I can do for you all, please do not hesitate to get in touch; [email protected].

Thanks again for everything my old mate.

Love Marcus
