Michael (Mike) Joseph Andrade, affectionately known as "Poppa Mike" lived a beautiful life. Mike was born December 27 th 1954 in Mexico City, DF Mexico to loving parents, Leon & Cristina Andrade. He moved to Oxnard, Ca at the age of two, and was raised here with his siblings. Although born in Mexico, Oxnard was his home, he loved it, and took great pride in it.
A devout Catholic, he attended St. Anthony's Elementary School, and then Santa Clara High School (class of 1973) where he was an alter server, and as an adult was an usher at Santa Clara Church.
He was a hard working man, dedicated to his family, everything he did was for them. He was an Army Veteran, with a National Defense Service Medal and was a Sharp Shooter, all things that he was extremely proud of. He worked at Abex Aerospace in Oxnard for many years. He then moved to Willamette Paper Mill, and stayed there even through the new company ownerships with Weyerhaeuser, and New Indy. Mike's work ethic was unmatched and because of his problem solving abilities, mechanical ingenuity, and being an engineer at heart, he received several awards and commendations for creating new ways of problem solving.
He was a magnetic force, people gravitated towards him, and he accepted and loved them all. He was compassionate, loving, caring, attentive, and hilarious. If you were around Mike, you were guaranteed to laugh because he had a great story for you.
Mike loved riding his Harley Davidson up and down PCH, he loved the movies and especially movie popcorn, he loved visiting his Nina, and his Tias. He loved a bargain, he loved going to the swap meets just to look around. He loved classic cars and classic rock & roll. He had an eclectic taste in music and loved everything from Vicente Fernandez to The Doors, Stevie Wonder to The Beatles. He loved his Opie Boy, and even would FaceTime with him regularly while in the hospital.
Mike is preceded in death by his loving parents, Leon & Cristina Andrade and his sister Lupe Mesa. He is survived by his daughter: Azurdee Andrade, daughter: Delilah & son-in-law Keith Rakestraw Jr. daughter: Kristina Andrade, son: Michael A Andrade, his grandchildren: Lisa & Dustin Burks, Alexiss & Maddison Rakestraw, Whitney Baptiste & her husband Kevin Nieto, and Michael Nelson, his siblings: Angel (Alicia) Andrade, Alejandro (Dee) Andrade, Maria (Ruben) Landeros, Anthony Andrade, Patricia (Raul) Mosqueda and brother-in-law David Mesa.
He is also survived by countless cousins, and all his loving nieces and nephews who would often fight over who was "Tio Mike's Favorite" because they all wanted to be, and they all were, for different reasons.
Dad, we will miss you, immensely. You were our "go-to" when life got rough, you were our sanity in this crazy world, and our comfort when we needed clarity. You were always someone we could count on, and although you were a straight shooter, you always got your point across without judgement, and always provided us sound advice. You always made sure we made our decisions after thinking things through. You always gave it 110% and never stop fighting for what's right. Because of you, we have the hearts of a lion, the love of our family, and an insane work ethic. We thank you dad for all the calls, wise words of advice, the love you gave us and the beautiful lives we've lived because of you, your hard work, and your boundless love for us. We are all better people Dad, because of you. We will forever keep you in our hearts with God.
