Michael Benedict

BENEDICT, MR. MICHAEL Muskegon Michael Benedict went to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from his earthly home after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Ludington, MI on May 8, 1943 and moved to Muskegon as a child. He served in the US Navy on the USS Saratoga and moved to Florida, touring the country as a truck driver, until 1979 when he returned to Muskegon. On February 28, 1981 he married his wife, Jone (Wortelboer) Benedict. Shortly after, he left the world of driving to be a family man. He retired from Sappi in 2006. He was a life member of the VFW at Post 3734. He was a long running youth sports volunteer, especially a Little League baseball coach. Surviving are his wife, Jone, daughter, Joleen "Chip" Robinson and friend Lynn Grant, son Stephen "Scooter" Benedict and son Mark "Joe" Benedict. He has 4 grandchildren that he worshiped, David and Cassie Visger, Kelcy Jo Benedict and Mikayla Benedict. We will miss him so. He is also survived by his father Joseph Benedict; 2 brothers, Dave and John (Marlene) Benedict and many nieces and nephews. His mother Marilyn Miller Benedict preceded him in death. A Memorial Service is planned for Mike at his church-home, St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, 1200 Seminole Dr., on his wedding anniversary, Saturday, February 28, at 1PM Rev. David Brower will officiate with music by the W. MI Episcopalian Cursillo. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. His remains will be interred in St. Gregory's Memorial Garden where he served as Sexton. The memorial service will be one of celebration, please dress cheerfully. Memorials to St. Gregory's Courtyard or Heartland Hospice are preferred in lieu of flowers.
